Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse is experienced in nursing with an emphasis on child and adolescent needs. The RN will be responsible for teaching sound health education to youth placed in the residential facilities while supporting the Sanctuary Model in order to promote positive behavior change.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that arrangements for equipment and other necessary items and services are available.
  • Diligently oversee medication administration processes according to agency policy.
  • Provide overall nursing administration to staff in the administration of medication or treatment to clients in residential services.
  • Provide on-call services for Residential nursing and/or medication management services
  • Will ensure Director of Residential services and other staff remain updated with client medical information.
  • Will ensure all nursing/medical supplies are ordered and maintained as required.
  • Will oversee and/or assist in the development and/or revision of nursing and health related policies and procedures.
  • Develops and presents medication monitoring training to direct/clinical staff as needed.
  • Responsible for preventing client abuse by adhering to all policies and procedures, attending periodic training, reporting suspicious and inappropriate behavior, and following mandatory abuse reporting requirements.
  • Monitor chronic health conditions of residents
  • Attendance at meetings per prior arrangement, and participation as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Provide clinical advocacy for the residents at clinical meetings, including treatment plan meetings, weekly team meetings with the residents and psychiatrist evaluation meetings.
  • Ensuring that all relevant organization policies, procedures, and practices continually meet regulatory, licensure, and accreditation standards concerning storage, dispensing, administration, and disposal of medications.
  • Closely monitor supply of all residents' medication to ensure adequate supply. Obtain refills from the pharmacy as necessary to prevent lapses in medications.
  • Meet with residents as needed to ensure all medical needs are being addressed.
  • Providing trainings as necessary including, but not limited to, infection control, first aid, CPR, medication administration, and agency medical policies and procedures, medical emergencies, recognition of common medical issues, hygiene, handling of special medical needs, poison control, and communicable diseases.
  • Provide billable services such as: Psychopharm counseling, nutrition/health groups, sex education, and hygiene classes.
  • Providing or arranging for staff trainings on specific client health issues as related to the needs of specific clients. (Ex: diabetes, epilepsy, scabies, lice, etc.)
  • Review staff medical documentation and review medication error reports.
  • Builds and maintains a relationship with the Medical Director

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Nursing, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Currently licensed to practice by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
  • A valid Arkansas driver's license and insurance
  • Must receive child maltreatment, adult maltreatment, FBI and Arkansas state police criminal background clearance
  • Must have malpractice insurance up to date and on file.
