As the Team Lead in Shaping you will support all cells in the Shaping Department, this includes Wire Saws, OD Grind, Core Drill, Separating, and Inspection. Operator is well versed withing the Shaping Department and can help solve problems. Operator will process products to specifications as part of a quality machining group to verify that SILFEX products meet requirements of customers. This person is expected to use effective technical mathematics, measurement tools, and statistical techniques in the performance of tasks. In this role you will also be responsible for handling administrative tasks and supporting the other Manufacturing Tech in the department. This position is a significant component of the Silfex quality system.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Know and understand specification criteria prior to performing machining functions
  • Read and understand blueprint and work instructions to determine procedure for machining product
  • Understand and perform set-ups and teardowns for all department machines
  • Operate equipment according to training and/or equipment specifications
  • Machine parts per work instructions/customer specifications
  • Inspect each part per specifications and/or SILFEX quality requirements
  • Properly handle material machined
  • Complete associated paperwork timely and accurately
  • Maintain machines operated to assure consistency of product
  • Develop and maintain job proficiency, keep technical skills and knowledge up to date
  • Perform tasks in both group and individual environments
  • Manage time effectively
  • Ensure the cleanliness and order of machining stations
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Silfex Quality Management System and properly apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate
  • Carry out special projects and all other appropriate and reasonable duties that may be assigned from time to time
  • Application of Lean manufacturing concepts, including 5S
  • Perform all work related tasks in a safe manner and report any unsafe conditions to SILFEX management
  • Use measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers
  • Troubleshoots mechanical devices and performs autonomous maintenance and PM’s on department equipment.
  • Provides basic operations support in areas not directly associated with this category (for which adequate training has been provided and direction given)
  • Follow all company safety policies and report any unsafe conditions to Manufacturing Manager, EHS Manager, and/ or Director of Manufacturing
  • Assist in applying lean manufacturing concepts and 5S
  • Perform tasks/duties related to special projects or assignments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department management

  • Minimum requirement is a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience (minimum 1-year prior leadership or Silfex Shaping experience preferred)
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of common inspection tools as required by project tasks.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals or technical procedures.
  • Ability to write reports and basic procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several concrete variables.
  • Must be able to work effectively individually and in a team environment
  • Must be able to pay close attention to details
  • Must be able to perform successfully under minimum supervision

A Shift: 6am - 6pm
