Clinton Manor is looking for skilled DSPs who are thorough with their tasks to ensure excellent person-centered care is provided to the individuals we support. Not yet DSP certified? Clinton Manor is partially an ICF/DD home for individuals with developmental disabilities that also have high medical needs. A DSP supports the residents in their everyday living skills such as bathing, dressing, feeding, restroom assistance and social activities. DSP work will be considered for C.N.A's to keep certification active.


Education & Skills:

A High school diploma or equivalent is preferred, as well as previous experience with developmentally disabled adults is preferred. Must be able to obtain certification by the State of Illinois as DSP. CPR certification is required as per guidelines at the healthcare provider level. Must possess the desire to care for individuals at the highest level of quality. Continuing education through in-service training is mandatory. Additionally, the ability to take initiative, make independent judgments, and promote teamwork is required to successfully fulfill this job's responsibilities. Must have sufficient written and verbal communication skills to understand instructions and complete basic charting functions and must maintain confidentiality. This facility uses an Electronic Medical Records keeping system, therefore technological skills are essential. Dexterity of the fingers and hands is required to manipulate PDAs, Laptops, Scanners, Printers, and Desktop Computers. Further, the visual acuity to operate these devices is also required.

Safety:

  1. Report all incidents/accidents immediately, to include filling out the proper forms. Also report all unsafe/hazardous conditions/equipment immediately to your supervisor.
  2. Follow established safety policies and procedures.
  3. Must be use labels and SDS's to recognize hazards and to follow appropriate protective measures.
  4. Follow established hand washing procedures and universal precautions.
  5. Participate in appropriate in-service training programs prior to performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals.
  6. Report occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility's established policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.
  7. Promote safe practices at all times.

Physical & Mental Demands:

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
  3. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  4. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  5. Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with support personnel and agencies.
  6. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, stand for long periods of time, push, pull and meet the physical demands of this position.
  7. Works in all areas of the facility.
  8. Subject to frequent interruptions.
  9. Willingness to work beyond normal working hours within our 24/7 operating schedule. ie: extended shift hours, varying days of the week, holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  10. May be exposed to infectious diseases, substances, and other hazards as related to a long-term care facility.
  11. Communicates with other department personnel in a professional manner.
  12. Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (i.e. severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
  13. Is involved with individuals, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  14. May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset individuals, family members, etc.
