Job Description
Ruby’s Southern Comfort Kitchen is seeking to hire prep cooks that will be responsible for providing a supportive role to kitchen staff in the preparation of meals and ingredients. Their duties include organizing and labeling food items in storage closets, performing tasks like chopping ingredients, and sanitizing their workstation during and after service. Assist cooks and crew members as needed, especially during peak hours. They work closely with other kitchen staff to complete orders by gathering necessary ingredients and distributing them to different stations throughout the kitchen. Their job also includes overseeing specific cooking tasks and taking inventory of products to determine ordering needs. They may also be responsible for helping crew members deliver food to guests. Prep cooks are required to report any serious incidents to upper management, such as machine failure or broken items.
Please note: These positions are full-time and part-time. Some positions will require weekend and holiday shifts.
Essential Functions:
● Completing all tasks, in order, on the prep list from the Head Chef or General Manager.
● Labeling and stocking all ingredients on easily accessible shelves.
● Washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and meats.
● Measuring quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients.
● Parboiling food, reducing sauces, and starting the first steps in various dishes
● Adhering to all relevant nutrition and sanitary regulations and standards.
● Keeping track of ingredient inventory and collaborating with other kitchen and management staff to order resupply.
● Initiates food service preparations and catering for special events.
● Ensures that the kitchen conforms to local health department codes.
● Assists in the development, planning, and implementation of kitchen/catering operations.
● Standardize production recipes to ensure consistent quality
● Oversee special catering events and may also offer culinary instruction and/or demonstrate culinary techniques.
● Ensures that requirements for appropriate sanitation and safety levels in respective areas are met.
● Cleaning dishes, washing cooking utensils, and cookware.
● Taking out the trash and sanitizing the kitchen stations.
● Possess excellent work ethic skills and have the ability to move at a fast pace.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements:
Must be at least 16 years old.
High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
Prior experience is preferred, but not required.
