Sr Mechanical Estimator-

Prepare and take ownership for cost estimating of bids and project proposals, identifying risk, opportunities, and maintaining a winning strategy.

POSITION SUMMARY


Prepare and take ownership for cost estimating of bids and project proposals, identifying risk, opportunities, and maintaining a winning strategy.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare detailed estimates in accordance with the scope of work, blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare quantity take-offs, for foundations, structural steel, pipe, and process equipment.
  • Apply work hour unit rates for each item in the estimate to generate the overall direct work hours.
  • Understand the construction equipment requirements.
  • Understand the temporary facilities requirement and field non-manual staffing requirements.
  • Assist in the solicitation of quotes from material and equipment suppliers, subcontractors, and specified manufacturers.

DIRECTION RECEIVED

  • Supervision is mainly administrative with technical assignments given by the Director of Project Controls/Estimating.

DIRECTION OF OTHERS

  • At times direction will come from the Proposal Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or Equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Competitive bid experience in the petro-chemical, power, gas processing, refining and other heavy industrial facilities. Experience in Industrial EPC field.
  • Construction field experience highly preferred.
    • Advanced knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques.
    • Thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities.
    • Knowledge of estimating Best Practices.
    • Occasional travel required.



SKILLS REQUIRED


  • Proficiency in full suite of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Have a full understanding of the flow and logistics needed for the execution of an EPC project.
  • Possess the ability to organize large amounts of information into a coherent, meaningful format and communicate that information to the team.
  • Attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills: interface with project team required
  • Good writing skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit 1/3 to 2/3's of the scheduled work shift
  • Read engineering blueprints and reduced size black and white drawings, specifications, fine print, reports, schedules, estimates and other documents in either hard copy or on computer monitor.
  • Required on occasion to observe construction progress outdoors by walking or driving to or on the site over rough or uneven terrain, which may be dusty, muddy, wet and noisy.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work will be mainly conducted in-office; however, employee may be assigned to work at off-site locations from time to time. Overtime may be required at times to make deadlines.
