Accounting Specialist

Full Time | Day Shift

Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is currently seeking an Accounting Specialist. The ideal candidate will share Our Mission: Creating a better world by serving people in need.

What will I do as an Accounting Specialist with Lutheran Social Services?

  • Maintenance of accounting general & sub-ledgers ledgers and all journal entries related to those ledgers. This includes reviewing and analyzing transactions for proper coding, classification, and allocations.
  • Prepares month end basic and complex Financial Packages for distribution to appropriate parties. Responds to any requests for further information or clarification in a prompt manner.
  • Prepares fixed assets and determines proper depreciation methodology.
  • Receives, research and process deposits and wire transfers for assigned accounts, including assigning, and posting deposits to accounts in the financial management system and ensuring the accuracy of postings. Serves as a resource to provide cash management and cash flow analysis.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual tax returns (IRS 990) for Agency and Subsidiaries.
  • Analyzes and evaluates dashboards for Operations and CQI needs. This includes developing processes for identifying trends as well assisting with the establishment of policies and procedures and the related training.
  • May prepare account reconciliations including cash, fixed assets, and current and long-term liabilities.
  • Provide administrative support through the preparation of correspondence/reports, equipment maintenance and back-up, adequate stocking of finance supplies and providing administrative support during the annual budget preparation process.
  • Maintain positive banking relationships for all LSS accounts.

Requirements for an Accounting Specialist with Lutheran Social Services:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • At least 3-5 years related work experience.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products and financial reporting software.
  • Ability to analyze figures and identify and correct errors.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving and reasoning abilities.
  • Ability to function independently and possess flexibility and integrity.
  • Ability to handle confidential material in a prudent manner.
  • Detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license, access to reliable insured transportation and ability to meet LSS insurance standards required.
