Major FUNCTION: The Regional Civics Education Coach supports and reinforces standard implementation, provides sustained professional learning and contributes to the success of Florida’s priorities for civic literacy. Regional Civics Education Coaches supports Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support initiatives and serves under the leadership of the Bureau Chief/Director and Regional Civics Captains. Regional Civics Coaches will work in an identified region in the state to provide targeted services and supports to schools, districts and consortium. Regional Civics Education Coaches must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal-directed behavior and high performance.

Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides guidance and support for Florida’s priorities for civic literacy, including the Civics Literacy Excellence Initiative.Provides guidance and support for Florida’s priorities for civic literacy, including the Civics Literacy Excellence Initiative.Works collaboratively with Florida Education Foundation and the Florida Civics and Debate Initiative.Accountable for quantitative and qualitative performance indicators aligned to student performance data and FDOE/program goals.

  • Develops and provides technical assistance to LEAs, schools, and other stakeholders aligned to Florida’s priorities for civic literacy.Provides coaching to educators and maintain detailed coaching logs.Develops and provides training, professional development at the school, district, region, consortium, conference and statewide levels.

  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data to be used for program effectiveness and to ensures financial resources are aligned with the intents and purposes of the program.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Master’s Degree in Social Studies Education, or a related social studies content area and a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience with documented success of teaching civics and government. Certification in Elementary Education, Social Science 5-9 or Social Science 6-12 is also required. A minimum of 5 years of related civics and government teaching experience will be considered in lieu of a master’s degree.Preference will be given for experience: designing professional learning specific to civics and government instruction; facilitating adult learning and delivering professional learning for civics and government instruction; mentoring, coaching and providing oral and written feedback about instruction to classroom teachers; leading others in a collaborative process; analyzing and using student achievement data for instructional purposes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of educational programs and ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to analyze and interpret data, plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and deal effectively with a wide variety of people. Ability to multi-task and work within tight time constraints. Skilled in operating personal computer software such as Microsoft Word, and Excel
