LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a company in the Portland/Seattle area for a Structure Project Engineer role. The Structural Project Engineer is integral to the design and engineering team, focusing on the construction of aluminum and steel shells. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our designs meet the highest standards and specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop structural designs that comply with specifications, including the creation of models, drawings, and detailed material lists.
  • Prepare components for CNC cutting through lofting and nesting processes.
  • Conduct structural calculations essential for design integrity.
  • Collaborate with estimators in the project’s initial phases.
  • Provide support to production staff throughout the construction period.
  • Engage in sea trials to validate the performance of completed vessels.
  • Manage and update the engineering block library and structural standards documentation.
Supervisory Duties: The position may require supervising and mentoring a small team of engineers and designers or overseeing subcontracted engineering tasks within the discipline.
Interpersonal Relationships: The role demands maintaining diverse professional relationships, necessitating discernment in communication and interaction levels. Influencing decisions through respectful interactions both internally and externally is vital.
Skills and Expertise:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, Ship Constructor, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to adhere to stringent specifications.
  • Problem-solving skills, including data collection, fact establishment, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Competence in interpreting complex documents and a solid understanding of design spirals, vessel arrangements, and structural, electrical, mechanical, and outfitting details.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
Educational Background and Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline is required, with a preference for Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering.
  • Experience in the Aerospace or Marine industries would be highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with CFR, Classing Society rules, ABYC, IEEE, and military contracts is advantageous.
Certification Requirements: Candidates must qualify as a “U.S. Person” under the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 22, Section 120.15.
