TITLE: Chemistry/ICP/Anatomy Teacher


DEPARTMENT: High School


JOB TYPE: 10-Month Contract


REPORTS TO:  High School Principal


WORK SCHEDULE: Academic Year Per Contract


POSITION OBJECTIVE: The major responsibility of this role is to consistently teach and model what it means to think in a Christ-like way before his/her students and additionally, provide instructional services necessary to educate all students to ensure that they meet Indiana's academic standards. This will be completed through a Biblical worldview to guide the students into becoming developed, mature and responsible believers to the glory of God.


QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS:  The employee is a Christian with an authentic and mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ in both their professional and personal life with a calling and commitment to Christian education.  Must be able to work independently, multi-task, deal with frequent interruptions, and nurture and maintain a positive relationship with parents, students, and colleagues.  A high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality must be maintained when dealing with student and staff information.  The ability to prioritize workload and meet specified deadlines is critical.  Attention to detail and a preference for working in a time and task-intensive environment are essential.  Please review our Statement of Faith Agreement.

  

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from an accredited college or university and possession of a valid Indiana teaching license. A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience) is preferred.  Competency in the core academic subject area assigned must be demonstrated.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understands the subject area content thoroughly, provides instructional services necessary to educate all students to high expectations, and ensures that all students meet Indiana's Academic College and Career Readiness Standards.
  • Implements the school-wide student management policies within classrooms and everywhere on campus.
  • Participates in content professional Learning Communities (PLC’S) outside of school hours.
  • Serves on school committees as needed.
  • Performs clerical duties, as required, relating to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.
  • Participates in school-wide and individual professional development to maintain a certified teaching license.
  • Attends and participates in all staff meetings and communicates openly with staff.
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Department Lead or Administrative Staff.


Plan

  • Develops engaging and relevant lesson plans and organizes so that classroom instruction and cleanup activities can be accomplished within the allotted time schedule.
  • Provides adequate course communication through a syllabus outlining course descriptions, academic policies and procedures (including assessment, behavior expectations, and communication procedures).
  • Ensures that all subject matter is effectively communicated and understood by all groups of students.
  • Sets appropriate tasks and challenges for classwork, and homework respectively.
  • Communicates assignment expectations on FACTS (or Google Classroom) for access by students and parents in a timely manner.
  • Maintains emergency lesson plans and the current substitute folder in case of an unexpected absence.


 Manage

  • Responsible for establishing and managing student learning in a positive learning environment while maximizing the time available.
  • Creates a Christ-honoring classroom climate that promotes openness, mutual respect, support, and inquiry.
  • Maintains discipline in the classroom to ensure maximum learning.
  • Implements the school-wide student management policies within classrooms and everywhere on campus.
  • Communicates with parents on an “as needed” basis regarding their student’s academic or behavioral status in the class; this includes returning all emails and voicemails within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Establishes and maintains respectful, productive partnerships with families and staff in support of student learning and well-being.
  • Ensures that outside resources align with the Christ-centered, educational mission of GCA.

 

Instruct

  • Connects objectives to overarching goals, derived from state standards.
  • Integrate Biblical precepts and concepts into the curriculum.
  • Promote knowledge as a vehicle to thank and worship God.
  • Incorporate inquiries that lead to varying levels of questioning, critical analysis, problem-solving, and application.
  • Uses a variety of teaching methodologies to create an engaging and safe classroom setting where all students are held to high expectations.

 

Assess

  • Grades all assignments, tests, quizzes, and projects in a timely manner, using the grading scale provided by the school.
  • Maintains an accurate record of all grades for each student, submitting them to FACTS in a timely manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Indoors 90% of the time; must be able to remain stationary for long periods of time while working with a PC, and must be able to move supplies, copier paper, up to 35 pounds.  Must be able to assist children for health and safety reasons. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to the elements when crossing campus.  Change in temperature/humidity; potential for excessive noise, using computer/monitor screen; Average classroom with exterior windows.
