To be successful in this role, you should have:

1. A medical assistant certification

2. Phlebotomy experience required

Certified Medical Assistant-1

Responsibilities

  1. Provides immunizations to patients, takes vitals, rooms on patients, clinical/clerical duties
  2. Prepares patients for physicians visit, preforms tests and files appropriate documents.
  3. Receive and direct phone calls, obtain necessary patient information to file and update patient records, and ensure all forms and consents are completed by patients
  4. Performs a variety of patient care activities to assist physicians and nursing personnel
  5. Delivers quality customer service and maintains established quality control standards.
  6. Check-out patients, assist with referral processing, and arrange laboratory services
  7. Prepare patients for examination, take vitals, and record patients' health history
  8. Set-up EKG machines and other ancillary tests, administer injections and medications, and perform routine specimen collection and tests
  9. Prepare equipment and examination rooms, and clean instruments
  10. Assist physician with medical treatments, procedures, and exams
  11. Manage inventory of medical supplies and equip exam rooms with appropriate supplies
  12. Managing messages, prior authorizations, patient calls

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED required; successful completion of an accredited medical assistant certification program (w/certification) at time of hire, or within 90 days of employment
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills
  3. Maintains MA and CPR certifications (and actions required for recertifications) (CPR within 30 days of employment)
  4. Current Basic Life Support Certifications (BLS) for healthcare providers
  5. Satisfactory complete applicable competency assessments/skill checklist within 90 days of hire/transfer into MA job.
  6. If hired into the Southeast Medical Group Career Ladder, will be required to complete training and assessment for level hired within 90 days.
  7. Ability to always communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous and friendly manner
  8. Knowledge of medical terminology
  9. Must be detail-oriented and highly organized
  10. Firm grasp on medical practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies
  11. Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures
  12. Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times

Certified Medical Assistant-2

Responsibilities

  1. Perform all responsibilities for MA-1
  2. Assist in training and evaluation of new hires
  3. Assist in inventory management process
  4. Pod leader responsibilities
  5. Assisting other MAs and providers in need
  6. Assisting MA-Team Lead as directed
  7. Maintain all logs and required checks (refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.).
  8. Review charts, lab test results, and encounter forms for completeness and to assess follow-up as needed.
  9. Assists with daily and monthly quality assurance reviews including emergency kit check off.

Certified Medical Assistant-3

Responsibilities

  1. Perform all responsibilities of MA-2
  2. Assist in re-evaluation and retraining process for MAs on PIP or other competency improvement plans
  3. Make sure early and late MA schedules are set
  4. Assist practice manager on clinical tasks as directed
  5. Maintain inventory of medical supplies – order, receiving, and returning
  6. Assist with patient complaints as needed
  7. Guide patients and clinical staff to the proper authority for any issues
  8. Assist with clinic scheduling problem solving, patient wait times, and other areas of concern to increase efficient and quality services.
  9. Manage and maintain ortho supply and medication samples closets

Certified Medical Assistant-Team Lead

Responsibilities

  1. Perform all responsibilities of MA-3
  2. Assist in the supervision of work and performance of clinic staff, medical assistants and other support staff, as instructed, including input for performance reviews and corrective action plans as needed.
  3. Assist with interviewing new MA candidates and providing input
  4. Oversee and train new and existing staff along with the clinic manager.
  5. Assist with intake and set-up for patient visits.
  6. Assist with the training of medical and lab assistants, and volunteer staff on health education, laboratory, and dispensary services. Assist in providing on-going supervision to same staff.
  7. Assist as needed including medication refill requests, specialty and procedure referrals, pre and post clinic chart review.
  8. Review charts, lab test results, and encounter forms for completeness and to assess follow-up as needed.
  9. Perform other administrative tasks and clinical care as assigned by the Clinic Manager.
  10. Work with Manager to oversee dispensary logs and storage to maintain quality assurance.
  11. Coordinate the inventory, ordering and supply stock maintenance of medical supplies.
  12. Assist with other administrative projects and tasks as needed.
  13. Assists with daily and monthly quality assurance reviews including emergency kit check off.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  15. Team leads are the first chain in the management ladder.
  16. Arranges staff to best manage patient flow.
  17. Handles problems and complaints from staff members.
  18. Any situations that are beyond the team leads abilities will be escalated up to the manager for resolution.
  19. Team leads are responsible for their assigned MAs. Duties include ensuring MA tasks are completed and ensuring MA credentials are up to date (with Training and Education assistance).

Certified Medical Assistant-Ancillary/Diagnostic Test Specialist

  1. Perform all responsibilities of MA-3
  2. Complete unsupervised DEXA scans on either a GE Lunar or Hologic bone densitometry machine
  3. Complete allergy skin testing, prepare and assist with immunotherapy injections, and know how to treat a patient with a severe allergic reaction
  4. Perform diabetic retinal exams using the RetinaVue (or similar) system

Note: we do employee Non-Certified Medical Assistants; they are still required to have graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program and to function at the samecompetency level as a CMA (tested upon hire and annually via competency assessments), non-certified medical assistants will be eligible for the annual merit program yet will have a lower pay range as compared to Certified Medical Assistants.. To be promoted to the next level, certification is required.
