POSITION SUMMARY

The quality inspector is responsible for verifying and auditing the quality of the products manufactured in each department working that shift, for communicating to employees and appropriate supervisor any issues with quality and collaborating to resolve any quality issues. Responsible for overall testing, education, and communication of quality related matters.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Monitor, inspect, and record product quality continuously throughout the shift in all departments while meeting and/or exceeding the minimum number of inspections.
  • Encourage employees to strive for quality goals, production goals and overall safety.
  • Provide support and training, and answer questions of shift employees in regards to quality.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement of departments to reduce and eliminate quality concerns.
  • Contribute positively to a culture of quality.
  • Have a solid understanding of company quality standards and specifications. Know where to find the supporting procedures or drawings when needed.
  • Check that operators are performing their own inspections properly, on paper and in SPC stations, and at the frequency required and to the correct standards.
  • Record data input into inspection software and excel spreadsheets for inspections in specified departments using measuring equipment and/or gauges to verify that product meets or exceeds specifications.
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspection and testing accepting or rejecting material and updating records as required by company standards, procedures, specifications, and policies based on ANSI/ASQ sampling plans.
  • Understand and utilize AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) standards to perform inspections.
  • Collect, verify, and file inspection records in the appropriate locations.
  • Work with management, mechanics, department supervisors, and employees to identify, contain, and correct quality concerns/failures.
  • Make educated decisions about nonconforming material. If decision cannot be made confidently, include department supervisor or place material on hold for further examination.
  • Facilitate movement of nonconforming material from production floor, identifying and completing detailed nonconforming material reports, distributing as required.
  • Participate and/or lead quality investigations.
  • Communicate details from shift to incoming shift.
  • Provide support to the Quality Manager and/or Quality Technician when required.
  • Other misc. duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).

Experience:

6 plus months of experience in Quality Control.

Computer Skills:

MS Office skills including Word and Excel.

Other Requirements:

Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Experience with statistics preferred.
Ability to read a ruler and use basic measuring equipment (ex. Calipers, bore gages, dial indicators, etc.).

Basic blueprint reading.
