POSITION SUMMARY:

The WIC Director is responsible for the operation of the WIC program. All WIC program staff perform a variety of professional duties for the Women, Infants and Children in our program under the supervision of the WIC Director. WIC program staff are guided by a thorough knowledge of our Local Agency Policies and Procedures, applicable United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) federal laws and regulations, the policies, and procedures of the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) WIC Program as well as our sponsor agency Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center’s (JPA FHC) policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Staff are thoroughly trained and knowledgeable in the use of the NYSDOH NYWIC computer system, so they can process WIC participant information.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the WIC Director, the WIC Clerk is responsible for the following services:

1.Performs the preliminary screening of WIC eligible applicants including income evaluation, proof of residency, immunization status, voters registration status and identification with confidentiality and courtesy.

2.Certifies and recertifies WIC participants by collecting the necessary documentation to complete the process in accordance with WIC program manual.

3.Assists WIC participants in completing official WIC forms, including obtaining the proper signatures for proxies during certification/recertification in accordance with WIC program manual.

4.Reads Rights and Responsibilities and ensures WIC participant’s understanding.

5.Conducts program orientation, including explaining program benefits, issuing eWIC card, setting up WIC2GO application and providing list of authorized vendors.

6.Assists with transferring WIC participants using the VOC process in accordance with NYWIC and WIC program manual.

7.Completes general reception duties such as answering phones, routes telephone calls and takes messages. Schedules appointments (remotely/ in-person) and greeting participants.

8.Reviews the daily schedule for missed appointments, calls participants and mails letters to reschedule appointments. Makes reminder calls for future appointments and mails appointment letters.

9.Responds to customer service inquiries about the WIC program and its benefits over the phone or in-person in a courteous manner. Provides additional information on topics such as WIC benefits and the Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program.

10.Provides referrals to health and social services, and documents accordingly in WIC participant record on NYWIC.

11.Follows-up on dual enrollment issues in NYWIC from dual enrollment report.

12.Participates in breastfeeding promotion and support activities.

13.Participates in outreach activities to promote WIC enrollment.

14.Utilizes language line when speaking with participants that need translation services.

15.Performs any other related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School or equivalency diploma.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a timely manner and follow instructions.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments at any time.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, accommodating for rotation to different WIC sites based on program needs.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Windows, experience with data software preferred.
  • Experience with providing customer service and computer data entry, including volunteer experience.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
