Job Summary

Direct the overall operation of an assigned university sports program.

Responsibilities

Department Summary

Valdosta State University is a member of the Gulf South Conference and is a NCAA Division II institution. The VSU women's basketball team won the Gulf South Conference championship this past season and VSU hosted the NCAA South Region Tournament. Position includes some weekend and holiday work based on season and team travel.

Typical Allocation of Duties

Supervise, instruct, and train - 40%
Supervise, instruct, and train student-athletes through practices and the monitoring of academic progress and through game-day team management.

Recruitment - 20%
Recruit student athletes. Attend high school sporting events to identify potential recruits.

Oversee facilities - 15%
Oversee the development and maintenance of sports facilities. Direct the maintenance of equipment and supply inventory.

Schedule, manage, and supervise - 15%
Schedule games, manage team travel, and supervise assigned personnel.

Manage budget - 10%
Manage scholarship, travel, operating, and equipment budgets. Coordinate sponsorship and fundraising events and programs.

Supervisor Expectations

Candidates must provide a summary sheet of annual won-loss records to include post season record.

The head coach will be responsible for all aspects of the women's basketball program to include but not limited to:

  • All administrative responsibilities to include the management of the women's basketball budget.
  • Scheduling of all games.
  • Monitoring of academic status of student-athletes.
  • On court game and practice coaching.
  • Recruitment of student-athletes.
  • Actively participate in fund-raising activities.
  • Supervise women's basketball assistant coach staff and graduate assistants.
  • Participate in public relations activities for the university, athletic department and the women's basketball program.
  • Mentor student-athletes.
  • Develop the basketball skills and knowledge of basketball student-athletes.
  • Adherence of institutional, NCAA and GSC rules and regulations.

An ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of five years of collegiate and/or professional coaching experience.
  • A master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required Qualifications

Required Experience
Bachelor's degree and over five (5) years of related work experience.
