The Procurement team at Ginkgo Bioworks is building a resilient, agile, and socially responsible supply chain. Our strategic priorities include: ensuring supply to sustain growth, operational excellence, digitization and compliance, strategic supplier partnerships, and driving productivity to support growth.
Role Description
Your role will involve:
- Building Internal Collaborations: Engaging with internal teams to gather and align on business requirements
- Market Intelligence: Leveraging your expertise to analyze market trends and insights, ensuring our sourcing strategies are ahead of the curve
- Supplier Relations and Development: Establishing and nurturing productive relationships with suppliers, enhancing value and fostering innovation
- Contract Management and Strategic Spending: Overseeing contract negotiations and management, while advising on strategic spending to maximize value and sustainability

Responsibilities:
- Accountable to ensure that lab consumables, equipment and services are available uninterrupted to deliver Ginkgo's mission
- Collaborate with cross functional stakeholders to gather business requirements and market insights to support effective strategy creation and execution for categories in scope: lab consumables, lab equipment and services, CRO, CDMO, DNA/enzymes
- Collaborate with stakeholders to consolidate volumes, assist with instrumentation maintenance coverage selection
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gain early access to portfolios to assess supply chain options/strategy and operationalizing plans
- Support buy versus lease decisions
- Lead RFI & RFP processes to facilitate selection of suppliers to support Ginkgo's business needs
- Initiate, negotiate and execute contracts and agreements including commercial terms, intellectual property and confidentiality. Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and procurement standards
- Build effective spend management tools to drive total cost of ownership and asset utilization decisions
- Develop and manage key supplier relationships through appropriate programs
- Collaborate with finance to streamline the budget/forecasting process relating to third party spend
Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree with 8 years of experience or a Bachelor's with 12 years of related experience; or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of demonstrated expertise in managing lab consumables, lab equipment and service category/spend, ideally with a lab/scientific background
- Proven negotiations, supplier management and contract management skills
- Strong analytical, strategic, and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to partner effectively with cross-functional leaders throughout the company and communicate thoughtfully to diverse stakeholders, and external parties
- Ability to remain flexible in a fast paced, high-growth environment
- Demonstrated commitment, self-motivation, and drive
- Enthusiasm about being a part of Ginkgo's mission
Preferred Capabilities and Experience
- 5+ years of sourcing experience and prior experience with biotech startups or pharmaceutical companies
Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $minimum of range 132k+, as well as company stock awards. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience.
