About this job

The Mission Inn Restaurant Manager will lead all aspects of business related to the Restaurant, In-Room Dining, and Pool service. They will deliver superior food and beverage service while maximizing guest satisfaction through proactive leadership and a keen understanding of the Mission Inn’s expectations for quality. This role will lead by example, be hands on, visible, and uplift staff while ensuring the operation runs smoothly. Hotel experience preferred.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate daily activities for In-Room-Dining, Pool Service and Restaurant operations, including the planning of daily floor plans based on forecast revenue, guest counts and reservations.
  • Complete daily outlet inspections to ensure cleanliness, sanitation and presentation meets the high standards of the Mission Inn Hotel and Spa and in adherence to both state and county standards. Inspection to include menus, furnishings, walls, doors, floors, table coverings, light switches, music, lighting, flatware, dishes, trays, glassware, counters, umbrellas, railings and both BOH and FOH areas as well as In-Room-Dining operations, mini-bar set-up, and poolside service facilities.
  • Submit daily inspection report to Director of Food and Beverage, Director of Human Resources and General Manager.
  • Ensure that menus are accurate in pricing and printed accordingly. Review and update POS system to ensure proper pricing and menu items are downloaded.
  • Actively supervise restaurant shifts.
  • Model, motivate, train and coach staff to deliver superior guest service.
  • Touch all guest tables to receive feedback on their experience.
  • Observe and critique staff on guest interactions; recognize staff for superior service and coach for substandard service.
  • Respond to guest concerns with exceptional courtesy, tact, and professionalism.
  • Control operational expenses and identify ways to mitigate loss, including overseeing ordering of supplies in line with business need; ensuring that inventory controls are in place and that PAR levels are in line with business demand.
  • Monitor labor and ensure that labor is used wisely and in line with forecast labor needs.
  • Monitor wasteful work practices and devise plans to eliminate waste.
  • Plan and work on appropriate forecasting techniques with Director of Restaurants, Food and Beverage Director, Human Resources and General Manager.
  • Monitor subordinate staff for adherence to County and State Health Codes. Complete monthly detailed safety inspections and attend monthly safety meeting.
  • Schedule and execute weekly deep cleaning projects.
  • Assign and inspect daily side work activities, and ensure they are completed properly.
  • Strategic planning and driving the outlet to achieve greater results, including awareness, and understanding of guest wants/needs.
  • Maintain awareness of competition in the market; plan and devise ideas to drive guest satisfaction and guest counts including making menu and special recommendations to drive revenues.
  • Monitor the quality of total restaurant presentation, including the quality of food and food presentation and the service levels being provided by the staff.
  • Establish performance standards in conjunction with Director of Food and Beverage, Human Resources and General Manager, including training programs.
  • Complete annual performance appraisals.
  • Ensure consistency in policy implementation and adherence and deliver corrective actions when performance dictates it is needed.
  • Understand, monitor, and create reporting metrics to drive maximum results, including reviewing and adjusting to monthly P&L statements.
  • Recruiting and retaining high quality talent, including hiring the most qualified candidates; consistent and on-going training of staff; set standards and accountability for performance.
  • Ensure that your actions and the actions of the staff, support a healthy, safe, and productive workplace environment.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Proven track record and work experience as a Restaurant Manager, Restaurant General Manager, Hospitality Manager or similar role for a minimum of five years.
  • Extensive food and beverage knowledge, with the ability to remember and recall ingredients and dishes to inform guests and staff.
  • Experience with In-Room Dining operations and Poolside service.
  • Strong planning skills and strategic thinker.
  • Communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships.
  • Conflict resolution skills and the ability to coach, and influence others.
  • Problem solving, able to think out of the box and make strong business decisions.
  • Ability to build, lead and motivate a team to achieve high results.
  • Acute financial management skills.
  • BS degree in business administration, hospitality management or culinary school is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work a varying schedule, including but not limited to days, nights, weekends and/or holidays, and especially busy Festival of Lights Season (November – January). Schedule is based on business demand.
