OBJECTIVE
The incumbent develops programs to control machining, fabricating or processing of parts by automatic machine tools, equipment, and/or systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in process improvement activities
CNC
- Writes and stores programs on electronic media
- Determines the sequence of machine operations, and select the proper cutting tools, where applicable, needed to machine or fabricate parts into the desired shapes
- Enters computer commands to store or retrieve parts patterns, graphic displays, or programs that transfer data to other media
- Revises programs to eliminate errors, and retest programs to check that problems have been solved
- Analyzes job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data to calculate dimensions, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates
- Writes instruction sheets for a machine operator to guide setup
- Observes machines on trial runs or conduct computer simulations to ensure that programs and machinery will function properly and produce items that meet specifications
- Modifies existing programs to enhance efficiency
- Determines reference points, machine cutting paths, or hole locations, and compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures
- Compares computer printouts with original part specifications and blueprints to verify accuracy of instructions
- Performs tests on machinery to diagnose malfunctions; checking blueprints or repair manuals as necessary
MAINTENANCE
- Assists in troubleshooting and root-causes analyses on machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools
- Assists in performing routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, gears, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventative maintenance actions.
- Assists in repairing machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices
- Assists with general handyman repairs or maintenance on the building, including grounds maintenance
- Performs all work in accordance with established standards and safety procedures
- Maintains a clean, safe work area free of foreign materials
- Participates in training and cross-training efforts as needed
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED JOB SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required
- Machine operating and program writing experience
- Industrial maintenance technician or mechanic experience
- Ability to read, understand, and apply information from manuals or catalogs
- Properly use a wide variety of tools (manual and power)
- Demonstrated high level of quality in workmanship
- Math, reading, and reasoning skills; including algebra and geometry
- Ability to communicate effectively, written and oral
- Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Demonstrated multi-tasking ability to adjust priorities based on manufacturing needs
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work independently or with a team

This position is located in an industrial/production environment, with exposure to:
