The Electrical Engineer actively relays critical information between Engineering and Production. The Electrical Engineer must have strong power systems design and troubleshooting experience. The ability to effectively collaborate with Engineers, other Designers, Drafters, and Production staff in an efficient team environment is critical. They are responsible for creating accurate, sensible, and consistent electrical designs, layouts and/or schematics within set timelines to enable Production to succeed. All steps within the Electrical Engineer’s construction must meet or exceed Nomad GCS standards of excellence.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibility:

  • Design unique custom electrical power distribution systems (120/240 AC & 12/24/48 DC), layouts and/or schematics based on information from customer specifications, Mechanical Design Engineering drawings and other sources which require:
    • Use of standard drawing templates.
    • An electronic database to track components, available wire, etc.
    • Calculations to track loads on each wire for correct sizing of generators, shore power which includes balancing loads to each line.
    • Correctly labeling and sizing all wires, fuses, breakers, loads, etc.
    • Program spreadsheets to generate Bill of Materials for electrical components.
    • Communication with Mechanical Engineers to identify and resolve differences between Electrical drawings, Mechanical drawings, and client requirements.
  • Research, read, and understand outside standards such as IEEE, MIL, NEC, etc.
  • Create, implement, supervise, and document tests verifying designs meet customer requirements.
  • Complete all analyses, documentation, and oversee schematics required for Production within established time frames as agreed upon by the Operations team.
  • Communicate with other Engineers, Project Management, Production Leads to identify and implement improvement opportunities at the project level as well as a company level.
  • Communicate with vendors and clients to troubleshoot designs, get information on new designs, and obtain specifications of components.
  • Assist Sales and Marketing by creating Electrical load calculations that can be used in proposals to customers.
  • Work independently, inspect work, and ensure it meets Nomad quality standards.
  • Track and record work hours for each specific project daily.
  • Be willing to travel as needed by Management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Management.

Basic Knowledge Desired:

  • Understand the significance of Nomad’s Core Values and display a demonstrated willingness to apply them.
  • Understand electrical loads, fuses, wire capacities, resistors, diodes, relays, etc.
  • NEC – Knowledge of National Electric Code (at a minimum, how to access code, and how to find information within the code).
  • Provide documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, or equipment are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Be knowledgeable of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote the protection of people, data, property, and institutions to always promote a safe work environment.
  • Be able to operate a variety of current tools to include, but not limit to capacitance meters, electronic measuring probes, frequency analyzers, frequency counters or time or dividers, microcontrollers, multi-meters, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, personal computers, plotter printers, power meters, signal generators, soldering iron, voltage or current meters, crimpers, hand tools, data-loggers, design software.
  • Use knowledge gained from experience with Computer Aided Electrical Schematic Design software.
  • Be comfortable and knowledgeable with using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook; Microsoft Access is also helpful).

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and is frequently required to sit.

Working Environment:

  • The work environment is a partially environmentally controlled indoor environment. Depending upon the time of year, temperatures can fluctuate between 60F and 100F but is typically around 70F. There are times when working outside will be required.
  • Typical indoor office environment, long periods of computer-related work, constant interruptions, and high levels of stress at times.
  • All Team Members must wear provided OSHA approved eye protection at all times in manufacturing areas. The employee will be required to wear provided safety eyewear throughout the performance of their duties. Closed toed shoes are required when on the Production floor.
  • The employee is always expected to maintain a professional image and demeanor on company property or while representing the company off-site.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 5+ years of verifiable work history as an Electrical Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Solidworks Electrical (or similar) and file management.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted for the above requirements.
