General Description of Position: Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, metal or composites.


Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Must be able to use basic carpentry tools
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to the type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated
  • Prepares layouts, marks cuttings and assembly lines on materials
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements
  • Assembles cut and shape materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue, or form accessories
  • May erect, climb and work on scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above the ground level at heights up to 100 feet or below ground level at depths down to 50 feet. Use body harness or other fall protection as required.
  • When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor.
  • Ability to finish subgrade to within +/-0.05 using blue tops.
  • Able to read and understand cut and fill stakes.
  • Able to operate and understand machine control.


Specific Equipment and Materials to be used: Carpenter’s hand tools, small/medium/large power tools, bench tools (saw, drill, grinder), concrete saw, chipper, sander, paving breaker, jackhammer
