SUMMARY:

The Trust Portfolio Advisor is primary business development representative for investment options for the Trust Department. The Trust Portfolio Advisor collaborates with Trust Officers to analyze, develop and implement investment strategies for personal trust and investment management accounts. The Trust Portfolio Advisor must be able to operate effectively in a client-centric, growth-oriented, team-focused, and transformational environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consulting with trust officers, clients, and other professionals to review and assess the needs of the client.
  • Identify an asset allocation and construct a portfolio that aligns with the client’s objectives.
  • Have ongoing communication with both trust officers and clients articulating changes and account performance.
  • Provide discretionary management for complex trust and high net worth portfolios in accordance with client’s unique needs, governing documents, department guidelines, and fiduciary standards.
  • Manage nearly $130 million of assets in portfolios.
  • Partner with trust officers to fully understand client’s needs and enhance the overall client experience.
  • Responsible for asset management of accounts.
  • Responsible for asset reviews of department stocks, fixed income, mutual funds, ETFS, sundry assets, etc.
  • Responsible for annual reviews of accounts, including reviews of special assets, including real estate, annuities, promissory notes, sundry assets, and life insurance.
  • Work with Trust Officers & clients to establish an appropriate investment objective, articulate the tailored investment strategy and recommendations, and fully explain account performance.
  • Effectively utilize all available systems, tools, and resources to efficiently execute trade and rebalancing decisions.
  • Coach and train less experienced team members on best practices and escalate issues as well as overseeing certain designated functions.
  • Support department in developing new business by communicating solutions and value proposition to prospects, in person and through remote delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with Trust Administration, Trust New Business Team, Advanced Branch Support, and other similar service areas.
  • Lead presentation at client events, regional meetings, seminars, and web conferences.
  • Lead initiatives within the Investments Area, across the division, and bank-wide that improve our ability to serve our clients.
  • Adhere to the ethics, standards, and principals set forth in the Prudent Man Rule, Trust Policy Manual, Illinois Trust Code, and Trust Compliance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in working with customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance.
  • Expert-level understanding of investments and portfolio management strategies., Modern Portfolio Theory, Prudent Investor Rule, Uniform Trust Code, and Illinois Trust Code.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide concise, relevant market commentary and explain sometimes complex investment terms to clients and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in evaluating and distilling investment research.
  • Proven ability to articulate investment strategies and account performance, as well as answer questions to help build relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience with estate planning principles, taxes, insurance, retirement accounts and other financial planning-related terms.
  • Experience in mentoring and providing feedback to fellow associates and/or serving as a point of escalation for complex discussions.
  • Familiarity with multiple accounting, performance, and trading systems.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, and other software programs (Morningstar Direct, Microsoft Office, FIS Charlotte, Zephyr, Argus Research, Investors’ View, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and minimum 6 years of related work experience that required making investment recommendations and allocations relied upon others.
  • CFP or CFA designation
  • Series 7 Broker preferred.
