Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of a Staff Pharmacist, assists or supports the pharmacist as needed in all aspects of efficiently dispensing medication, providing accurate service, preparing invoices and bills, ordering and maintaining drugs and medical supplies.



Requirements

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:  Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT, ExCPT), Maintains current registration with the NM Board of Pharmacy.

SKILLS:

  • Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical medical supplies and medical equipment preferred
  • Basic math skills
  • Competent keyboarding skills of the technician level function of the pharmacy computer required.

EXPERIENCE: Six months as a Tech I or equivalent job experience at SVH or another pharmacy required.  Two years of experience as a pharmacy technician, six months experience in retail customer service

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

-Responsible to:  Director, Pharmacy, Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor

ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogens - B - (Occasional exposure in daily duties.  Little expected risk but may be exposed unexpectedly to potential infectious materials.  Exposure may be superficial and limited to a small amount of fluid.)  Close quarters in a busy environment.  Low risk for infectious disease.  Possible exposures to hazardous chemicals, allergenic drug products and needle sticks.  Moderate exposure to video display terminals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to stand up for entire shift (8 to 12 hours), to stoop and bend over, to lift moderate loads (up to 30 lbs.). Hearing sufficient to answer telephone and eyesight sufficient to read prescriptions and job orders. Must be able to move throughout the hospital at a rapid pace to an entire shift.
