What You'll Do in This Position

Provide editorial support for short-term and long-term publications projects such as abstracts, technical papers, strategic plans, research projects, publications consultation, document design, and process coordination. The tasks include, but are not limited to, writing, editing, and managing document publication by analyzing and evaluating information to design effective communications for the intended audiences. In addition, requires project coordination with illustrators, technical information personnel, offsite and onsite printers, photographers, and the customers. At times the customer must be educated about format choices, software use, publication practices, tasks that must be accomplished to meet deadlines, requirements on in-depth editing and document composition, and the limitations associated with those items.-Maintain a knowledge of and apprise customers of publication trends. Negotiate reasonable deadlines to meet the customer's needs within available resources. Monitor progress of publications process. Identify and recommend publishing technology upgrades. Analyze most appropriate technology for customer requirements. Review and evaluate quality of documents produces. Check and recheck work performed in the production of a document. Ensure clarity, conciseness, accuracy, completeness, and readability of information for intended audiences by determining audience needs, analyzing input, verifying consistency of input, and identifying and resolving problems. Identify and resolve problems related to publishing documents. Schedule and prioritize publications workflow with peers, customers, and support groups. Plan/manage production process with customers, peers, and support groups. Determine needs; arrange for resource support; establish milestones and schedule resources; monitor progress. Consolidate large amounts of information to attain standardization, consistency, and flow. May be responsible for compiling data such as the SRNS monthly abstracts collection. Must edit/write and organize the information from as many as 200 diverse resources. Information is compiled from manuals, slides, posters, manuscripts, and reports that have been approved for release to the public.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Require

High School Diploma, GED, or other equivalent State Credential

Other Qualifications

Ability to obtain and maintain Q level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

College degree in technical communications, Education, English or related discipline preferred.
Knowledge of publications process/electronic publishing; technical expertise of SRS processes preferred. Use of mark-up techniques, layout design, templates, and desktop publishing computers/software.
Excellent verbal, writing, and editing skills.
Command of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and other word processing software.
Ability to interpret a wide range of highly technical information and summarize in a manner suitable for multiple audiences.
Ability to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
Experience in the nuclear industry, business communications, or similar field.
