Canopy by Hilton, a modern boutique hotel situated in downtown Grand Rapids, is seeking a host to assist with restaurant operations at Knoop, the hotel's exceptional craft cocktail lounge. JOB SUMMARY:
The Host/Hostess is responsible for welcoming guests and escorting them to their seats for dining in the hotel's restaurants, continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Welcome guests and ascertain their dining needs.
- Seat guests and manage the seating chart.
- Receive incoming calls and provide information in a polite and professional manner.
- Take room service calls and orders and accurately communicate them to the kitchen.
- Monitor restaurant activity to determine seating and dining flow.
- Perform opening and closing duties, as needed.
- Completes side work to include polishing/rolling silverware, stocking condiments and glasses, sweeping and cleaning as directed by supervisor. Practices “clean as you go” method, and sanitation standards.
- Stock and clean host stand/podium.
- Ensure knowledge of menu and all food products.
- Uses guest’s names whenever possible and learns guest preferences.
- Follow proper cashiering functions by completing/closing guest checks and submitting information into POS system.
- Respond to guest inquiries and requests in a timely, friendly and efficient manner.
- Assist fellow team members and other departments wherever necessary to maintain positive working relationships.

REQUIRED/PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent experience required.
- 6 months + of experience working in a related position.

Satisfactory criminal background screening required - Valid driver’s license and safe driving record may be required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for entire shift, balance, reach, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, smell, taste and perform repetitive motions that require manual dexterity.
This position requires the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate machinery and tools, determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of food and make general observations of facilities. This position is primarily indoors and may subject the employee to high or cold temperatures from machinery and moderate noise level.
