Now Hiring: Epidemiologist I/II


The Epidemiologist I is responsible for planning and implementing evaluation activities, identifying, analyzing and interpreting public health data sources to support ongoing project needs, and producing reports to summarize findings, support program decisions and meet deliverables. This position is responsible for the collection, compiling, reporting, and management of data to support the Maternal and Child Health section efforts to address disparities faced by pregnant and postpartum individuals and their families in Franklin County. The MCH Epidemiologist I will identify public health problems pertinent to maternal, infant, and child health and use critical thinking to determine whether a public health problem exists, articulate the need for further investigation or other public health action on the basis of results of literature review and assessment of current data.

 

This position focuses on providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers in

accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of Franklin County Public Health.

 

Duties Include:

  • Uses established scientific and technical methods and practices to identify and evaluate a wide range of health conditions within an assigned program area;
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to citizens, staff, public health officials, epidemiologists, health foundations, and others as designated;
  • Contacts public health partners, assigned agencies, and government organizations to obtain or disseminate information related to the essential position functions;
  • Prepares written reports and reviews work product for accuracy, precision, and compliance.
  • Coordinates across partner sites to plan, develop and maintain data bases to facilitate quick retrieval and manipulation of data;
  • Responds to queries and data analysis requests by internal and external stakeholders;
  • Uses established scientific and technical methods and practices to identify and evaluate a wide range of health conditions within an assigned program area;
  • Summarizes results of the analysis and draw conclusions, writes reports and makes presentations of data findings;
  • Works as a team or project member, conducting routine epidemiologic functions comprised of data collection and data analysis using basic epidemiologic methods;
  • Identifies surveillance data needs, implements new or revises existing surveillance systems, reports key findings from the surveillance system, and supports evaluation of surveillance systems;
  • Responsible for identifying, analyzing and interpreting public health data sources to support ongoing MCH program needs;
  • Assists in design, implementation and maintenance of standard internal and external (public) dashboards and population health website;
  • Executes ArcGIS apps and creates maps for visualization of data geographically;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • A master’s degree in public health (MPH) or a master’s of science degree in public health (MSPH)

with a focus on epidemiology or analysis and assessment, OR

  • Bachelor’s or other non-epidemiology professional with a minimum of 2 years’ experience

performing epidemiology work under the guidance of a Tier II or Tier III epidemiologist.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, and be insurable through FCPH’s provider; some evening and weekend hours required. Non-smoker.
  • Knowledge and proficiency navigating an Electronic Health Record system preferred.

 

Hiring Hourly Wage: Epidemiologist I: $27.96/hour to $32.15/hour. Epidemiologist II: $29.79/hour to $34.26/hour. This is a non-exempt position.
