JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Maintenance Mechanic

FLSA: Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Golf Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Turf Equipment Manager /Head Mechanic

SUMMARY: Assist in ensuring that proper maintenance schedules, parts inventory, and records are kept. Help ensure maintenance is performed according to service manual specifications or to Wintergreen Golf maintenance policies. Stay current on methods of service procedures to help ensure mechanical problems won’t reoccur. Assist in training on operation and safety features of equipment to all employees. Mechanic must take supervision from Golf Superintendent, Turf Equipment Manager or Head mechanic.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

Specific Duties/Responsibilities

• Help keep the shop clean and orderly and a safe work place
• Check reel mowers daily for quality of cut and adjustment and rotary blades weekly or as necessary
• Keep up with equipment hour intervals and perform the necessary service
• Assist in controlling parts inventory: Help ensure parts orders are placed, Identify and label parts when received as to what equipment it is to be used on, Assist in routing parts to be Devils Knob golf maintenance when received, Ensure all defective parts are discarded or stored if needed for warranty claims
• Assist in keeping all equipment in good working condition
• Assist in keeping maintenance records and service records on all equipment
• Learn the safety features of each piece of equipment, where they are placed and that they are working properly
• Help equipment maintenance dept. stay within budget guide lines
• Must be able to diagnose and fix minor problems that may occur on equipment
• Learn to operate all equipment correctly and safely
• At end of shift ensure all tools and chemicals stored in proper place
• Work with operators daily to ensure equipment is operational and clean
• Inspect all fire extinguishers monthly for proper charge
• Read all MSDS sheets and keep MSDS book up to date when new sheets arrive
• Keep equipment maintenance overtime hours at a minimum
• Assist with snow removal at Mountain Inn.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of:

• The mechanic should possess a working knowledge in maintenance and repair of 2 and 4 stroke gasoline engines.
• A basic understanding of diesel engine maintenance and repair is a must.
• The ability to weld and fabricate metal to make repairs is necessary.
• He must have knowledge of safety practices as prescribed by OSHA, VOHSO, or Wintergreen Policy.

Skill & Abilities in:

• Demonstrate the desire to self-educate and perform work with limited supervision.
• Always be willing to communicate daily with supervisors and fellow associates.
• The mechanic should be willing to learn the basics of electronics and hydraulic systems as they apply to turf equipment.
• Understand the golf course daily needs of equipment and help ensure such equipment is available for daily use.
• Attend service schools when WPI budgets will allow.
• Special Considerations for this Position
• When needed a varied work schedule could be possible.
• He should set a good example for other associates by following these policies.

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

High school diploma OR GED.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S):

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• Heavy lifting is required.
• Working at both Stoney Creek and Devils Knob could be necessary at times.
• The mechanic must keep cool under pressure
