                                                                                                       MEDICAL ASSISTANT 1ST SHIFT


REPORTS TO: APRN/Medical Team                                                                                      FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt 


SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 7a-4p


POSITION SUMMARY:  

Revive Ministries Inc. programs do not include a medical facility but recognizes that individuals who are recovering from addictions will also have physical needs.  The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with the medical needs of persons served while under the direction of the APRN and/or RN on staff.  The Medical Assistant is also responsible for assisting with coordination of healthcare for persons served in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations as well as nursing standards of care. 


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Checking in medications (inventory) from pharmacy delivery
  2. Facilitating medication self-administration
  3. Review Client Requests and refer appropriately
  4. Assist with Weekly Nursing Updates under the supervision of the RN
  5. Maintain various Medical Logs
  6. Schedule and confirm client’s external appointments
  7. Submit lab orders and review client drug screens
  8. Maintain and update client charts in hard copy and electronic form
  9. Upload paper records into the medical chart appropriately
  10. Receive late admissions (vital signs, medications, review of medical systems)
  11. Maintain medical inventory and recommend new materials needed
  12. Clean and prepare examination/medication rooms as needed
  13. Answer telephone calls, directing appropriately and notating messages
  14. Process Medical Record Requests
  15. Serve all Revive facilities as directed by the Medical Administrator
  16. Operate general office equipment such as copiers, faxes, phones, scanners, etc to assist with filing faxing, making copies, scheduling client appointments and other general office duties, including computer use, word processing, spreadsheets and other software applications
  17. Other duties as assigned


BACKGROUND/EDUCATION: 

  1. Graduate of medical assistant program (certification preferred) or Certified Nurse Assistant.
  2. High level of professionalism and strong customer service skills.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  4. Prefer medical substance use background. 
  5. Sound understanding of all federal and state regulations including HIPAA Privacy and Security. 


SKILLS REQUIRED:  

  1. The applicant will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.   
  2. Must have the ability to speak clearly on the phone and in person to convey information effectively. 
  3. Ability to actively listen to instructions, directions, or information to carry out tasks to completion or transfer messages without error. 
  4. Ability to read and understand handwritten information and transcribe documentation. 
  5. Ability to manage files and documents in an organized manner as prescribed by the APRN or Nurse. 
  6. Experience providing medical guidance to clients within Revive programs. 
  7. Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients as outlined in the Code of Conduct and Ethics including relationships with clients, former clients, and notification requirements, and other policies while providing the care of clients in a residential setting. 
  8. Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills are a plus. 


WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Physical Demands:

Must be able to sit, stand, bend, reach overhead and lift up to 10 pounds; travel outside of the office and/or attend meetings both during and after normal work hours, both at or away from the work site.  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. May involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.  Requires about 6 hours of sitting and no more than 2 hours of standing or walking in an 8-hour workday. No significant stooping is required. 

Environmental Conditions:  

The employee will work indoors in a residential setting with central heating and air conditioning.  The house itself is open and ventilated well with central heating and air conditioning.  The person may work outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions during times of community activities for clients.   

Mental Demands:  

There are several daily deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant levels of stress for some individuals.  The position must deal with the clients, staff, and insurance representatives daily on a variety of issues.   


WORK EXPECTATIONS: 

  1. Full Time, average 40 hours per week.
  2. Must be able to work well with other staff and clients. 
  3. Some travel required.
