The Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville (formally Columbus Charter School) in Whiteville, NC is seeking a Bus Monitor for the Columbus, Bladen, and Robeson bus run.  CCS of Whiteville is a public charter school serving students grades K - 8.


School Bus Monitor – Job Responsibilities


Purpose:


The School Bus Monitor is responsible for monitoring the conduct of students on a school bus to maintain discipline and safety, following basic principles of early childhood development and establishing good relationships with the children, the bus driver, the parents and other staff.


 Duties and Responsibilities:


Directs loading of students to prevent congestion and unsafe conditions; assists children as needed with getting on and off the bus safely.


Ensure children are in assigned seats, if applicable.


Ensure children get off the bus at the correct stop and that they are released to the proper guardians.


Rides the school bus to ensure students follow all bus rules, including prevention of altercations between students and damage to the bus.


Maintains order on the bus.


Pick up any trash left behind on the bus after each use; ensure bus is clean on the inside.


Report any bus malfunctions or repairs needed.


Participates in school bus safety drills.


May disembark from school bus at railroad crossings and clear bus across tracks.


Ensure that there are not any children left behind after the bus route is completed.


Teach children how to maintain safety, such as putting their seat belts on or sit back and follow procedures. 


Other: 


School Bus Monitor is a non-exempt hourly paid position and is required to clock in and out to ensure accurate record keeping to comply with Department of Labor standards.


Must have a reliable means of communication for quick response to the Office Manager and Headmaster to support effective school operations.  




Qualifications


The Bus Monitor will have the following experience and attributes:


 Prior experience working in early childhood educational settings a plus.


Excellent interpersonal skills for communication with children, bus driver, parents or other staff.


Excellent communication skills: active listening, instruction, speaking.


Excellent problem-solving and reasoning skills


Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
