POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing prescription medications, providing medication counseling to patients, and offering general healthcare advice. Additionally, they may oversee pharmacy technicians and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Position Summary Expanded:

Under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act,?(“The Unity Bill”) this position is considered a “Safety-sensitive position. “Safety-sensitive” is defined to include “any job that includes tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others.” Employees working in “safety-sensitive” roles are subject to this exception and subject to disciplinary action in the event of a positive test for marijuana or its metabolites.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. Dispensing Medications:
  • Reviewing and interpreting prescriptions to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of medication therapy.
  • Accurately dispensing medications according to prescription orders, while verifying patient information and dosage instructions.
  • Maintaining proper labeling and packaging of medications to comply with legal and safety requirements.
  • Checking for drug interactions and contraindications, and consulting with healthcare providers when necessary.

2. Patient Counseling:

  • Providing medication counseling to patients regarding proper usage, dosage, potential side effects, and precautions.
  • Answering patient questions and addressing concerns related to their medications.
  • Offering advice on over-the-counter products, dietary supplements, and general healthcare topics.
  • Educating patients on disease management, lifestyle modifications, and adherence to medication regimens.

3. Medication Management:

  • Monitoring medication inventory levels and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Performing quality control checks on medications and ensuring compliance with storage and handling procedures.
  • Compounding medications and preparing specialized formulations as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy and patient outcomes.

4. Regulatory Compliance:

  • Adhering to federal, state, and local regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
  • Maintaining accurate records of prescription orders, dispensing activities, and patient consultations.
  • Participating in quality assurance programs and conducting regular inspections to ensure pharmacy compliance.
  • Staying updated on changes in pharmacy laws, regulations, and industry standards.

5. Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborating with pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Supervising pharmacy staff and delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • Participating in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education programs to enhance professional knowledge and skills.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited pharmacy program.
  • Valid pharmacist license in Oklahoma
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology, medication therapy, and healthcare regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing medications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and computer applications.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional patient care and customer service.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
