Job Title:Research Development Specialist – Sustainability InstituteDepartment:Academic Affairs Administration | Sustainability Institute

The Ohio State University Sustainability Institute (SI) was established in 2019 to leverage the capabilities and realize the full potential Ohio State can contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for all. SI provides leadership and an interdisciplinary platform to strengthen teams and programs at Ohio State involved in sustainability research, education, engagement and applied solutions. Supporting and growing interdisciplinary teams comprised of a diversity of researchers from varied disciplines, backgrounds, and experiences is a key function of the institute. This includes support of 31 core faculty hired through the Discovery Themes Initiative and nearly 300 affiliated faculty across the spectrum of sustainability scholarship at Ohio State.

Through engagement with faculty, the SI Research Program Manager will enable SI in achieving its research goals to build effective interdisciplinary research teams and ultimately contributing to the increased success in securing extramural research funding. The Program Manager achieves this end by leading SI research programming, namely research facilitation, extramural proposal development, research project direct support, and research investments.

The Program Manager will lead research development activities, including taking responsibility for the design and execution of various forums for SI faculty affiliates to exchange new scientific discoveries and knowledge and to build professional networks of potential collaborators and resources for research including SI’s Exploratory Research Groups, networking activities, conferences, and other scholarly interactions. The Program Manager works closely with SI’s faculty director and faculty research leaders to development and execution of strategies that align activities in support of SI’s strategic directions and to achieve SI’s research goals. The Program Manager reports to the SI Faculty Director.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED

Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required: 4 years of relevant experience required. Demonstrated excellence with written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills; research experience in a sustainability-related field; experience in research program management, planning, or administration; knowledge of best practices in team science; knowledge of sustainability scholarship.

Desired: At least 3 years of experience in research program development and program management in interdisciplinary sustainability or environmental research or closely related field; experience with developing large, complex proposals on interdisciplinary research topics; experience working within the research enterprise in a university setting building and facilitating faculty research teams.

Additional Information:

The target hiring range for this job profile is $79,000 - $105,000 The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
