Job Title: Finance Director - Non-profit Organization
Job Description:
Seeking a dedicated and experienced Finance Director to join a local non-profit's organization's leadership team. The Finance Director will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial management and operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Financial Planning and Analysis: Lead the development of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and long-term financial plans in collaboration with senior management and the Board of Directors. Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
  2. Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements. Present financial reports to the Board of Directors and finance committee.
  3. Grants and Contracts Management: Manage the financial aspects of grants and contracts, including budget development, compliance monitoring, and reporting. Work closely with program managers to ensure proper allocation of funds and adherence to grant requirements.
  4. Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow projections and manage cash flow to ensure the organization's liquidity needs are met. Develop strategies to optimize cash management and maximize investment returns while minimizing risks.
  5. Financial Operations: Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger accounting. Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  6. Audit and Compliance: Coordinate the annual financial audit and other compliance reviews with external auditors. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as grant requirements and donor restrictions.
  7. Risk Management: Identify and assess financial risks facing the organization and develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure financial sustainability. Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and oversee the organization's risk management policies and procedures.
  8. Team Leadership and Development: Provide leadership and direction to the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Mentor and develop staff to enhance their skills and capabilities.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
  2. Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in a non-profit organization or similar setting.
  3. Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, fund accounting, and financial reporting requirements for non-profit organizations.
  4. Experience managing grants and contracts, including budgeting, compliance monitoring, and reporting.
  5. Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Excel.
  6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  7. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including board members, donors, and program staff.
