Position Summary:

COTA's Senior Learning and Development Trainer, Vehicle Maintenance is responsible for the effective coordination and delivery of advanced and technical training and development programs in the Vehicle Maintenance and Facilities Maintenance departments. This position will be the lead Technical Trainer for COTA's Technicians and will administer the advanced Technical training related to the Apprenticeship Training Program.

Performs other duties in alignment with the 2019 - 2024 COTA Strategic Plan and in support of the organization's vision to Move Every Life Forward.

This Position is Responsible For:

  • Provides classroom and hands-on on-the-job training in the theory and practical applications of repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electromechanical devices, microprocessor components, and mechanical systems. Trains COTA maintenance personnel in all aspects of bus maintenance, service and repair of bus systems; sub-systems, and components. (Diesel engine, transmission, other major component overall as well as engine tuning, etc.);
  • Manages the coordination of the VM Apprenticeship Program and ensures training modules align with the Technician levels in the program; monitors tracking and enrollment for the program; partners with the VM management to ensure technicians are in enrolled in training courses accordingly; participates in the ATP committee meetings; partners with the Labor Relations team to ensure processes and procedures in the ATP are in line with the contract.
  • Prepares and conducts competency evaluations, assessments, and remedial training programs. Develops and trains personnel with new and updated materials or procedures; Develops and implements training manuals, lesson plans, curriculum, training schedules, procedures, certification programs, and vehicle maintenance technical library. Develops alternative training modules that allow for on-line training and other options to accommodate a 24/7 vehicle maintenance work site;
  • Works with the OPS Technical Services team to develop standards, conduct and monitor employee performance in accordance with organization standards and/or other training. Works closely with Vehicle Maintenance supervisors to ascertain current and future training needs;
  • Develops and maintains database of departmental training data, and the vehicle maintenance technical library. Monitors and tests progress of trainees and prepares statistical reports evaluating competency and performance. Records completed work assignments; maintains records and prepares comprehensive reports;
  • Gathers, reviews and analyzes course evaluations to determine effectiveness of training sessions. Recommends and implements approved revisions to course materials as necessary to improve training effectiveness;
  • Reviews training material and provides feedback to curriculum owners as needed;
  • Plays a key role in the planning, development, and design of new curricula;
  • Assists in tracking and measuring training programs and tie back to the strategic goals of the organization;
  • Utilizes the Learning Management System to track and measure training deliverables for the organization; and
  • Coordinates training provided by OEM and component manufacturers; monitors quantity and quality of the training.

At Minimum You'll Need:

  • Requires an Bachelor's Degree in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment repair or related field and seven (7) years of maintenance training experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 608, 609 EPA license; CNG fuel system inspector license; Allison transmissions EP-40 Hybrid electrical certification; Cummins engine certification on Diesel and CNG engines; and Basic electrical certification for automotive or diesel required. ASE Master Certification preferred.
  • Must obtain a CDL Class B within six (6) months of employment.
