Salary:

Position Summary: The Broadband Professional Engineer performs advanced professional engineering work related to broadband networks. Develop plans, specifications, contract preparation, administration, and supervision as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with good engineering practice. Is technically involved in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project. May occasionally supervise and schedule the work of other team members. Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects. Have client contact at management and staff levels and the ability to present new concepts and project plans to the client or at industry forums.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Design broadband networks utilizing programs such as ESRI, Visio, AutoCad, and other design software and tools as required.
  • Provide calculations and records in support of feasibility studies, cost modeling, project management, and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates.
  • Develop plans and specifications for contract preparation and administration.
  • Schedule and conduct meetings with the Owner to review contracts, perform pre-bid meetings and bid openings, pre-construction meetings, and final ride outs on a regular basis.
  • Complete fiber optic splicing schematics.
  • Attend and/or lead weekly coordination and project management calls.
  • Maintain project status and keep the project status reporting system (database) current with the actions and changes that take place on assigned projects so the overall organization can respond to client requests. This will require onsite visits from time to time.
  • Provide competent engineering and technical assistance to the Project Managers and Senior Project Managers.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints to plan projects.
  • Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety standards.
  • Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.
  • Prepare or present reports on topics such as bid proposals, industry trends, and new technology.
  • Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to managerial personnel.
  • Complete weekly time sheets, in conjunction with weekly expense and mileage reports.
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline of engineering recognized by ABET for licensure as a Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum 10 years engineering experience in broadband projects, with an emphasis in Fiber to the Home (FTTH), Fiber Optical Distribution Networks, IT networks, or five years in Electrical Engineering with a strong familiarity in broadband networks.
  • Professional Engineer designation.


Licenses, Certifications, Training Requirements:

  • A valid motor vehicle driver’s license in good standing is required. No DWI/DUI convictions (the previous number of years will be determined by the state in which the license is obtained).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.

 

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors:

  • Flow of work involves normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination much of the time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Remote – Must be located in Midwest USA

Travel:

  • Travel approximately 30% of the time.
