Shop and Yard Assistant

The Shop and Yard Assistant I is responsible for assisting with the general housekeeping, inventory, and plant general equipment maintenance needs to ensure efficient operation.

Primary Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently load or unload customers and vendors with asphalt emulsion material and ancillary products by operating pumps, valves, certified scales, forklifts, and other equipment as required.
• Provides excellent customer service while loading customers, and use suggestive selling to up-sell tools, accessories, and ancillary items
• Accurately documents customer pickups by writing up bill of ladings in SAP system and promptly send to accounting to be invoiced
• Assembles and maintains stock of tools and ancillary inventory items
• Maintains cleanliness in the location and safe working environment
• Perform light general maintenance on equipment to keep clean and in working order and other related duties as assigned
• Safely loads and unloads trucks and product
• Assists in the manufacturing of emulsions material as needed
• Follows specific work instructions and best practices to safely and accurately complete daily work assignments
• Performs housekeeping and general plant maintenance
• Inspects equipment and reports needed repairs to supervisor
• Conducts operations in a manner that promotes safety
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
• Basic computer skills
• Knowledge of and ability to operate a forklift, company will provide the required training for the right candidate
• Scheduling flexibility
• Ability to obtain general knowledge of products & plant operations
• Basic mechanical knowledge
• Excellent math skills
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to perform heavy physical labor exposed to weather elements, noise, dust, and temperature extremes (hot/cold), and dirty/greasy environment
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and deal with challenges/issues
• Must demonstrate strong ethics, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
• Ability to absorb and retain formalized training

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Bilingual candidates preferred
• Valid driver license and an acceptable driving record
• General Construction experience
• Knowledge of the industry is a plus
