Position Summary:
The Accountant I in the Fiscal Operations Division is responsible for data entry, preparing financial reports, proofing, balancing, and tracking data/reports/accounts, and performing reconciliations, and serving in the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions and ensuring that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and organizational procedures. Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proofs and balances various general ledger transactions daily.
- Processing and inputting data in applicable systems.
- Prepares and/or distributes financial reports.
- Proofing, verifying and balancing data, reports, or accounts.
- Performs reconciliations for the State’s Trust Funds to ensure accuracy of agency transactions.
- Assist in reconciliation of daily and monthly Treasurer’s Office accounts to ensure proper recording.
- Assists with property control.
- Supports the division in its records retention functions.
- Files and maintains information and supporting documents for all job functions.
- Responds to phone inquiries.
- Supports the maintenance and processes forgery and fraud claims and supporting documentation as necessary.
- Supports the Accounts Payable functions, including the review and processing of vouchers/refunds for timely payment.
- Supports the Accounts Receivable functions, including the entry and review of information regarding the deposit of receipts.
- Processes various requests for the Unclaimed Property Division, including but not limited to stop pay of warrants, cancel for redeposit of warrants and warrant replacement.
- Create and maintain procedure manual for all job functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably related to this position.
Specific Skills:
- Good communication and organization skills.
- Knowledge of accounting theories, principals, practices, and terminology.
- Ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data.
- Ability to make calculations rapidly and accurately.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships and communicate effectively with all levels of staff, other State agencies, and the general public.
- Ability to operate office equipment.
