CorTrust Mortgage Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of CorTrust Bank N.A., serving 37 communities in South Dakota and Minnesota. CorTrust Mortgage has a direct relationship with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. We service the vast majority of all conventional loans we originate. We also have access to a wide variety of mortgage products including but not limited to: FHA, VA, Conventional and RD. We also offer Minnesota and South Dakota Housing Finance Authority products.

As a Mortgage Loan Originator, incumbents will solidify CorTrust Mortgage as an industry leader by developing relationships and advocating in the community. They will solicit and pre-qualify loan applications, prepare credit application packages, and present requests to underwriting for approval. They will review loan documents and prepare them for closing.

Daily duties for this position:

  • Advocates in the community to deepen relationships and markets the institution’s loan products.
  • Screens borrower requests from potential applicants, reviews applications for pre-qualification, and issues prequalification letters to customers.
  • Reviews loan applications and effectively communicates with potential borrowers to explain lending parameters and identify which loan programs and terms best fit each customer and situation.
  • Works with borrowers to secure necessary information for loan underwriting and conducts site visits as needed.
  • Prepares and reviews loan application packages according to underwriting policies and presents financial analysis to underwriting for approval.
  • Reviews loan documents, title, appraisal, and survey prior to closing to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborates with borrowers, title company, and realtor to confirm conditions of funding are met prior to closing and coordinate timing of loan funding.
  • Identifies additional unfilled banking or insurance needs and refers borrowers to Bank partners.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed at any time.

Required skills & abilities:

  • Minimum two years’ experience in a mortgage lending or financial services environment.
  • Mortgage banking background preferred with a proven track record of success.
  • Adapts easily to system, process, product, and service changes.
  • Advocates for CorTrust in the community, customer experience, and co-worker relationships.
  • Ability to reason, problem solve, and think critically.
  • Strong analytic, time management, and organizational skills and high level of attention to details.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to make presentations and educate borrowers on loan products and processes.
  • Demonstrates high level of integrity, personal diplomacy, and respect.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to the mortgage banking industry.
  • Works cooperatively and constructively with a wide variety of people, cross-functional teams, community- based organizations, title companies and referral partners.
