Job Description:


***This position is eligible for up to two days remote work per week.


BASIC FUNCTION:


The Academic Technology Support and Training Specialist is responsible for the support and training of academic technology for faculty, staff, and students, including the university's learning management system (LMS) and other associated academic technology software, hardware, and classroom technologies. The position is responsible for the support of the LMS and its related and integrated technology, and promoting the adoption of technology in support of innovative teaching and learning strategies.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Collaborate and train faculty members on the use of the learning management system (LMS).
  • Provide comprehensive support for the LMS and act as a technical resource to respond to faculty, students, and staff needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to support the integration of technology into their courses and instructional strategies.
  • Train faculty members on the use of third-party software embedded into the LMS (such as Turnitin, Zoom, Webex, Simple Syllabus, and other integrations).
  • Assist faculty with using a variety of software applications, including but not limited to MS Office, Camtasia, Adobe products, podcasting, videoconferencing, digital cameras, and audio/visual editing software.
  • Create and socialize training materials related to classroom technologies which may include multimedia visual aids, video demonstrations, and e-learning modules.
  • Provide updates and training documentation for classrooms.
  • Design, develop, schedule, and deliver technical training for faculty on current technologies and new initiatives in the LMS and other technology through web-based tutorials; instructor-led and hands-on workshops; remote web-conference sessions, and online self-paced training programs.
  • Facilitate the adoption of technology by the academic community including facilitation of the "Friend a Faculty" program, among other innovations.
  • Assist the Center for Teaching and Learning resources to research, test, implement LMS features outcomes, e-portfolio, open content repository, analytics, etc..
  • Troubleshoot basic user issues and escalate issues to others as appropriate.
  • Adheres to ADA requirements for LMS and other online content.
  • Respond to level 1 and level 2 service requests and escalate as necessary.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide system administration tasks for the LMS or other software as required.
  • Participate in efforts of the Office of Information Technologies to enhance the effective use of technology at the University.
  • Adhere to the Service Level Agreements of the TSC and IT department.
  • Respond to IT chat bot queries and update information in the bot and on the campus portal related to the LMS and related software.
  • Conduct research and maintains current knowledge of technologies that support pedagogy. Make thoughtful recommendations for improvements to teaching and learning technologies for the benefit of the University.
  • Assist more senior IT technology subject matter experts in research studies evaluating the use of technology and their impact on student learning outcomes at the University.
  • Documentation of policies and procedures as required.
  • Perform other related duties that may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • An Associates degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 apps, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, Calendar, Teams, Bookings, Stream, OneDrive, OneNote and others.
  • Foster a customer-focused approach to support services by actively engaging with faculty, staff, and students to understand their needs, preferences, and challenges.
  • Work effectively with Information Technology staff members, faculty and students in a collaborative and collegial manner.
  • Act responsibly by following issues through to resolution.
  • Available to work occasional nights and weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFACTIONS:


  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field is preferred.
  • Professional experience in a learning management system and support is highly desirable; knowledge of Canvas LMS is a benefit.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and practices (needs assessments, task analysis, prototyping, evaluation) in a university setting.
  • Ability to design online course content (lectures, activities, discussions, assessments, etc.) that align with specific learning outcomes according to industry best practices.
  • Ability to evaluate LMS content against accepted design principles/standards such as Quality Matters (QM).
  • Experience with technical support of inclusive pedagogy such as universal design and open educational resources (OER).
  • Ability to prepare reports and analyze data related to the usage of various teaching and learning technology systems and services.
