Woodworker Overview:

Woodworker

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • The Woodworker constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes, studies specifications; and measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, ruler, pencil, and hand and power saws.
  • This worker fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power staple, repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, inserts wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers.
  • This incumbent may build crate around object, using ruler, hand tools, and pneumatic nailer, may fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds, apply preservative to prolong wood life, and may pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers.
  • Uses WMS and other Government Data Systems in the performance of the PWS requirements.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Must have basic framing skills
  • Must have carpentry experience
  • Ability to complete carpentry tasks throughout assigned projects
  • Knowledge and experience of OSHA safety regulations
  • The ability to work well with others and willingness to learn in a team environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • You will be responsible for minimizing waste and cost when laying out patterns on materials, when selecting and substituting materials and when planning or changing the sequence of the work to cut time.
  • You will be required to read, interpret and check plans, blueprints and sketches.
  • You will be required to have extensive knowledge of the various properties and characteristics of a wide variety of hardwoods, softwoods, plywood, veneers, wood substitutes, gluing and bonding agents and other woodworking materials.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening
  • Ability to obtain a NAC-I and a CAC
  • Able to operate forklifts and other machinery and construction tools.
  • Possess basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and Word.
  • Must be a self-starter who can provide excellent customer service.
  • 1 Year previous experience in in construction preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must be able to properly communicate between departments.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Makes limited decisions and determines best methods to solve problems by referring to established precedents and policies. Impact of decisions is moderately low.

Security Clearance:

SECRET Level Required

  • Must have a current US Government SECRET Personnel Security Clearance or be able to successfully complete a U.S. government administered Investigation.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must also be able to maintain a US Government SECRET clearance.
