Essential Functions

Montgomery College has an immediate opening for an Athletic Operations Coordinator. This is fully proficient level work responsible for supporting general business operations of the Athletics program. Under supervision and/or direction, the incumbent reports to the Director of Athletics coordinating and executing work activities following department, College, conference, and division policies and procedures.

Responsibilities include business and game day operations, administrative support, video coordination, team transportation, and supervising student workers. Contacts are with administrators, faculty, staff, students, coaches, social media, vendors, contractors, game officials, and representatives of other higher education institutions.

Strategies may involve contact with multiple constituencies, such as direct interaction with the general public, faculty, staff, students, student representatives, and representatives of outside entities such as public and private schools, professional, and other community organizations for the purpose of supporting the recruitment and enrollment of students.

The position is a grade 23, non-exempt, non-bargaining position located in Rockville, MD. Hours are typically Monday-Friday from 8:30 am -5:00pm, with some evening and weekend hours as needed. One (1) day of telework may be granted based on the needs of the unit.

This is a full-time temporary position with benefits including annual leave, sick leave, and health coverage. The position is funded through June 30, 2024, with potential for extension. Employment continuation beyond this period is contingent upon need and funding.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee game day operations and athletic sports competition at the Rockville campus, coordinate live streaming of all events and coordinate the input of live statistics for soccer, baseball, and softball teams.
  • Manage game schedules, officials, locker rooms, and contracts for all teams, and reserve necessary venues for team and game day use.
  • Manage athletic gear and equipment inventory assigning gear to each team member.
  • Manage team study hall schedules.
  • Plan and organize all team orientations and the annual banquet.
  • Coordinate team ground transportation. Hire and oversee student workers.
  • Collect, compile and manage department data and files for reporting and tracking team and program activities.
  • Order department supplies, collect and deliver mail, assist staff with key card, spend authorization, and expense report submission processing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree and/or any combination of education, training, certifications/licenses, and experience providing understanding of the field and the ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Three years of experience working in a high school, college athletic department or sports organization.
  • Knowledge of athletics programing, game operations, and event planning.
  • Knowledge of database and file management.
  • Proficient in the use of a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite software applications appropriate for work activities.
  • Skill in verbal and written communications and interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to grasp all policies, procedures, rules and regulations pertaining to the athletics program and team sports.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to effectively use and operate various items of office and sports related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • A Valid Driver’s License is required.

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to move about to oversee sports competitions and transport materials of light to medium weight.
