Summary of Duties of the Director of Assisted Living

The primary goal for the Director of Assisted Living is to direct and oversee the daily functional operations of Assisted Living, within the context of its mission, value, and standards in order that the following are met: Maximize, achievable Assisted Living occupancy; Create, implement, meet, and exceed budgetary requirements; Maximize resident and staff satisfaction; Comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines and regulations; Direct and oversee the care management of the Assisted Living Community; and Maintain high standards for nursing practice, continued quality assurance, safety, human resources, and staff development. The Director of Assisted Living reports directly to the Executive Director.

Essential Functions of the Director of Assisted Living

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs all assisted living programs.
  • Oversees coordination of outside nursing services as needed.
  • Maintain job descriptions for all assisted living staff.
  • Develops the assisted living budget, in conjunction with the Executive Director, to be submitted as appropriate for review, recommendation, and/or approval.
  • Assures that departments are functioning within budgetary limitations.
  • Meets with appropriate personnel regularly to review, update, and alter budget spending.
  • Oversees safety program, OSHA compliance.
  • Oversees case management in conjunction with licensed personnel.
  • Coordinates with discharge planners in hospitals and nursing care facilities to insure the residents’ safe and timely return to their apartments.
  • Maintains close contact with residents and families during hospitalizations, rehab stays, and acts as an advocate for the resident.
  • Develops, assesses, evaluates, implements, etc., individual resident care plans with participation of individual resident.
  • Assists pharmaceutical services in developing, maintaining, implementing, and periodically updating written policies and procedures for the administration, storage, and control of medications.
  • Participates in the interviewing and assessment process prior to assisted living move-in.
  • Oversee medication management and resident records to assure accuracy.
  • Meets with each resident individually on a regular basis; Assesses service level for each resident monthly.
  • Manage the staff in all departments of community.
  • Determine the staffing needs for assisted living necessary to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Delegate to supervisors the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary to perform their assigned duties.
  • Ensure that professional nursing personnel have valid and current licenses as required by this state.
  • Review complaints/grievances made or filed by department personnel.
  • Ensures disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, handicap, or marital status.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Develop and participate in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of timely in-service training classes.
  • Develop, implement and maintain an effective orientation program to orient new employees to the facility, its policies and procedures, job position and duties.
  • Provide opportunity for and encourage leadership training that includes the administrative and supervisory principals essential for charge nurses as well as some for other licensed personnel.
  • Attend and participate in continuing educational programs designed to keep abreast of changes in the nursing profession as well to maintain licensure in a current status. Attend any training deemed mandatory by the state.
  • Require all licensed staff who are licensed and/or certified to participate in continuing education programs required by the state. Keep accurate records of participation.
  • Maintain adherence to HIPPA.
  • Monitor activities of daily living care and the facility to assure all residents are treated fairly and with kindness, dignity, and respect and assure resident respond in kind to staff.
  • Review/investigate complaints and grievances made by residents and present a written/oral report to the Executive Director indicating resolutions as deemed appropriate.

Non-Essential Functions of the Director of Assisted Living

  • Supports and participates in the resident centered activity programs.
  • Participates in projects or committees as assigned.
  • Attends all associate meetings including in-service education and associate functions, as requested by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED equivalent and two years of relevant senior living community management experience.
  • Meet or be willing to obtain the state specific regulatory requirements for administration of a community; including independent, assisted, and memory care.
  • Excellent computer skills including: Windows, Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, internet based and property management programs.
  • Exceptional grammatical and writing skills, proficient with email process and etiquette.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply regulations, employment and labor laws, local, state, and federal standards and requirements.
  • Must have the interpersonal skills to work with various levels of people, associates, and residents.
  • Familiarity with office equipment including fax, copier, computers, scanner, phone, postage meter.
  • Be free of communicable disease.
  • Completion of drug testing and criminal record background check upon hire and upon request of supervisor/Grace Management Human Resources.
  • Physical requirements include bending, standing, lifting, stooping, sitting, walking, stretching, and ability to lift/carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Able to travel for regional meetings and other meetings as requested by supervisor.
