Job Description

Do you have a passion for helping others?   Are you looking for a satisfying career that will allow you help individuals with employment barriers be able to actively participate in their communities and achieve dignity through the power of work?  If so, then Goodwill wants you!   Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley is currently seeking a dedicated, self-motivated, and dynamic professional to join our Parkersburg Mission Services team as a full-time Career Coach. 

The Career Coach provides full program management of career coaching programming, including coordinating activities for training students and other Goodwill clients and/or referrals.  May also provide case management for individuals receiving placement services.  Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Engage in the development of community employment situations for clients.
  • Ensure that the clients’ job and manager’s expectations are clear and understood by the client.
  • Perform the client’s actual job duties as necessary while providing direct training to the client on the job.
  • Teach job responsibility, job retention skills, and appropriate social skills for relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Observe clients’ work areas for safety hazards and trains on safety precautions.
  • Transfer job activities to the client in a systematic manner and at a pace appropriate to the client in order for the client to reach independent job functioning.
  • Provide intermittent, short-term training and retraining as needed.
  • Function as a liaison between employers and clients and maintains ongoing communication with the Employment Specialist and other team members as appropriate.
  • Work as a team member to define and meet the clients’ needs and goals.
  • Provide client and employer follow-up.
  • Make or arrange job and work site modifications where necessary.
  • Maintain case notes to document services provided.
  • Attend staff meetings as requested in order to provide client progress reports.
  • Act as a professional advocate for persons with disabilities.
  • Assure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Keep accurate and detailed case notes in Goodwill Tracking Software.
  • Work with referring WV Division of Rehabilitations Counselors to ensure appropriate services are met.
  • Provides on-site visits to extended supported employment clients and provides training as needed.
  • Maintains availability to work the days and hours required by client's job, including evenings and weekends.
  • Educates employers and the community as to the mission of Goodwill Industries.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.   Preference given to individuals with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field.  
  • Two or more years of related experience and/or training required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •  Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs required, as well as ability to learn client tracking system. 
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving history required.  
  • Must have reliable transportation. 
  • Must be available to work the days and hours required by client's job, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

  • Beginning rate of pay is $16.00 per hour.
