Job Description
Meridian Healthcare is looking to hire an energetic, detail oriented full-time Patient Service Specialist / Medical Assistant to work in our Primary Care office in Youngstown, OH! This is a blended role supporting the front and back office.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PATIENT SERVICE SPECIALIST / MEDICAL ASSISTANT
- Assists the physician as needed, including rooming clients and documenting in electronic health record.
- Assists with on-site physicals, immunizations, drug screens, and additional testing when scheduled.
- Consults with the Physician, Nurses, and Medical Services Manager regarding judgments and effective decisions related to patient care.
- Performs special procedures such as electrocardiograms, TB skin testing, eye distance exams, vital signs, and audiograms.
- Performs urine pregnancy testing, urinalysis, urine drug screens, breathalyzers, and other tests as necessary and as directed by the physician or Medical Office Manager.
- Charts results of all testing, communications, medication, and all relevant information regarding patient care.
- Assists in creating and maintaining patient files, charts, and follow-ups on an ongoing basis.
- Creates a welcoming and professional environment for our patients and visitors by demonstrating exceptional customer service based upon expected service behaviors.
- Proactively manages needs of patients and visitors in our waiting areas, seeking opportunities to react with patients by actively greeting patients and resolving patient issues.
- Performs patient registration, pre-visit, insurance verification, scheduling, arrival desk and/or departure desk activities according to standards and guidelines ensuring accuracy and an outstanding patient experience.
- Follows standards and guidelines for telephone etiquette and service when interacting with patients over the phone.
- Performs point of service activities: visit preparation, co-pay collection, patient tracking and record tracking ensuring accuracy and an outstanding patient experience.
- Recruits, enrolls, and educates patients on NG Patient Portal impacting utilization rates and enhancing the patient experience.
- Encourages patient utilization of front-end technology, provides guidance, encouragement, education and hands-on training.
- Supports front-end technology utilization to promote understanding and comfort level in use by caregivers and providers.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A PATIENT SERVICE SPECIALIST / MEDICAL ASSISTANT
Medical Assistant education and/or experience required. Electronic Medical Records experience a plus. Physician's office experience preferred. Must have good communication skills and be able to multi-task.
