JOB TITLE:Quality Assurance Coordinator

FOOD SAFETY ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY:

  • The incumbent is specifically responsible for ensuring that:
  • All controlled documentation is up to date and available for the responsible people.
  • Employees are trained properly on new/changed procedures and operating procedures.The schedule of internal audits is being followed.
  • QA and Sanitation supplies are being controlled and updated.
  • Findings from audits / inspections are being taken care of.
  • Training requirements are defined for all positions related to food safety and quality within his/her area of responsibility.
  • Direct reports are trained to complete work assignments, evaluated for effectiveness and documented, and deemed competent to perform their jobs. When gaps are identified, immediate corrective action must be taken. This includes retraining, coaching, and/or disciplinary actions - which must be documented.
  • Work assignments are communicated to associates.
  • Where the assistance of external experts is required for the development, implementation, operation or assessment of food safety within his/her area of responsibility, records of agreement or contracts defining the responsibility and authority of the external experts are maintained, as well as records of appropriate education, training, skills and experience.
  • New hire orientation is conducted and a training matrix is developed for each area of responsibility.
  • All elements listed in PROC 7.2 are enforced- not only those outlined above.

As an individual, the incumbent must understand the Food Safety Statement, complete the required training, perform work assignments in accordance with training and display an acceptable level of competency with all Quality Assurance/Safety/Security policies and training requirements. Areas of food safety training will include, but are not limited to, GMP, HACCP, Food Safety and Quality Statement, FSSC 22000/Global Food Safety Policy/Food Safety Goals, Visitor/Food/Site Security, Emergency Preparedness, Allergen Control and Bloodborne Pathogens. Some additional items will include: GLP's, Equipment Calibration, Hold/Release, QRT, and Food Safety Incident Reporting.

The individual must also request additional and/or refresher training if he or she feels that it is needed to effectively perform requirements in specific areas of responsibility.


SUMMARY:
The QA Coordinator is responsible for developing, administering and maintaining Food Safety and Quality procedures that assure the compliance with regulations and the management system.
JOB FUNCTION STATEMENTS - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Review and update FS&Q controlled documentation.
  • Train employees on new or changed documentation affecting Food Safety and Quality.
  • Prepare internal audits schedules and internal auditors trainings.
  • Laboratory and sanitation supplies inventory control.
  • Follow and enforce all GMP rules.
  • Address performance issues of QA personnel using Fresh Express HR guidelines.
  • Audit the process for compliance with food safety and quality requirements.
  • Carry out root cause analysis and drive sustained improvement at the production level.
  • Instill a culture of operational discipline, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Prepare and conduct trainings on a range of topics (job specific or other mandatory trainings) for employees at different levels of the organization.
  • Ensure that QA department employees are trained in and obey Fresh Express safety rules while
    carrying out their duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • When in the plant, the employee is required to wear hardhat, hearing protection and slip resistant and safety toed shoes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Strong technical knowledge of food processing;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Proficiency in computer usage (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Be capable of working in a cold (32 to 36 degrees F), noisy and wet environment.


OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience with FSSC 22000 or equivalent system
  • Previous experience in food manufacturing


EXPERIENCE:

  • Ideally one year minimum experience in a Quality Assurance function


EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • B.S. in food science, science, or technical discipline, or equivalent experience
