Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Tribal Development Coordinator, assist in summer job placement for the youth of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a positive role model.
  • Works with Tribal Development Coordinator and Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and its entities in identifying and developing appropriate work sites.
  • Supervise and assist assigned Summer Youth Workers.
  • Monitor Youth Workers` attendance, ability to follow directions and general work performance.
  • Resolve any problems that may arise with the Youth Workers.
  • Submit completed time sheets weekly to the Tribal Development Coordinator for assigned Youth Workers.
  • Prepare a final report at the end of the program concerning the youth who started and those who completed the program.
  • Plan and conduct Summer Youth Banquet.
  • Provide transportation for youth as needed.
  • Travel to tribal properties.
  • Participate in orientation and summer youth worker trainings.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

  • Frequent contact with Tribal Operations staff, Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort Management and Migizi Economic Development Company and Summer Youth Workers.
  • May have some contact with the community and general public.

  • Ability to lead and guide the work of others.
  • Ability to deal with staff and public in a courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.


Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally walk and stand and reach with arms and hands.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.


Work Environment:

  • Normal office and outdoor environment.
  • Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.
  • Travel is required.

Job Requirements

 

·High School Diploma or GED.

·Member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

·Must be between eighteen years and twenty-four years of age at the time of application.

  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.


Desired Qualifications:

  • College student.


License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Michigan Driver`s License and must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver`s License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
