SWCA Environmental Consultants has an immediate opening for a Staff-Level Compliance Specialist to support a variety of energy infrastructure related projects in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming.   • Compliance Technician - Entry-level
  • Assistant Staff Compliance Specialist - Typically has a few months to one year of relevant industry experience and expertise
  • Staff Compliance Specialist - Typically has up to two years of relevant industry experience and expertise

What you will accomplish

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations for Oil & Gas, Transmission, Generation and Renewable Energy related construction activities.
  • Project work may include Federal land management, oil and gas development, transportation, water resources, renewable energy, transmission/pipelines, mining, habitat restoration, wildfire monitoring, and watershed studies.
  • Complete routine compliance and reclamation inspections for construction related activities in accordance with approved permits and applicable state and federal regulations across Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming.
  • Provide recommendations for installation and maintenance of best management practices (BMPs), erosion control devices (ECDs), and environmental exclusion areas during construction.
  • Use topographic maps, GPS units, aerial photographs, and other maps and tools in the field.
  • For Assistant Staff Compliance Specialist and Staff Compliance Specialist, responsibilities include:
    • Supervise a small crew while conducting environmental fieldwork.
    • Independently assigning and directing the activities of others on behalf of SWCA, often in remote areas without immediate guidance from senior managers, to ensure quality and on-time delivery.
    • Ensuring that employees understand their responsibilities and delegated tasks and being held accountable if crew members under your supervision are not performing their activities correctly, productively, and safely.
    • Serving as a conduit of communication between employees and senior managers, including communicating issues to relevant senior managers.
    • Receiving and resolving complaints from employees in the field.
    • Monitoring team productivity and offering timely performance guidance, including determining when correction action is needed and delivering appropriate feedback.

Experience and qualifications for success

REQUIRED

  • Minimum of a high school diploma (or GED equivalent) required.
  • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather and over rugged terrain.
  • Able to drive multiple types of vehicles including trucks, 4x4's and ATVs/UTVs.
  • Must have a clean driving record and pass a background check.
  • Must be able to move heavy objects up to 50 lbs. and learn to operate multiple types of equipment.
  • Ability for frequent travel will be required for the position, with field work sometimes reaching 70%- 90% of your time.

PREFERRED

  • Experience in environmental compliance inspection of oil and gas/pipeline, renewable energy, and/or transmission projects.
  • Computer skills with demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with mapping software such as ArcGIS and GPS devices.
  • Excellent communication, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills with the ability to represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to jump into various types of tasks and learn new things to support our team as needs arise.
  • Able to inspect energy infrastructure projects including oil & gas pipelines, renewable energy facilities and electric utility infrastructure.
  • Familiar with soil erosion control and BMP installation and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot routine problems independently.
  • Oversee the implementation of the safety plan in the field.

An employee in this Sheridan, WY - based position can expect the following hourly rates: Compliance Technician: $21.00/hour- $26.50/hour; Assistant Staff Compliance Specialist: $23.00/hour- $29.50/hour; Staff Compliance Specialist: $26.00/hour- $33.00/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
