Summary of Need:
To provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with the established systematic problem-solving approach for the delivery of comprehensive nursing care, which are compliant with the regulatory standards in a correctional setting. Execute medical regimens as prescribed by licensed physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, podiatrists, and dentists. Includes advanced practice nurses such as: clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and certified registered nurse anesthetists. Advanced practice nursing is practiced by RNs who have specialized formal, post-basic education and who function in highly autonomous and specialized roles.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Document medications given and refused.
  • Control and tool count (with 2nd nurse)
  • Stock medication accountability- count stock medications and document on the appropriate form
  • Assess patients brought to the satellite unit, admit to RCTP if needed (documenting RCTP admission form)
  • Document RCTP nursing progress notes.
  • Diagnose and treat a patient's health problems.
  • EKG's and blood draws, as well as have strong assessment skills.
  • Perform health assessments to identify new symptoms of possibly undiagnosed conditions or complications.
  • Administer medication.
  • Manage and deliver restorative or palliative care to the ill, disabled and dying.
  • Teach and counsel patients about maintenance of health and prevention of illness or complications.
  • Contribute as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team and as a consultant on health-related committees to plan and implement the health care needs of consumers.
  • Treat a patient's health problems.
  • Perform health assessments to identify new symptoms of possibly undiagnosed conditions or complications. Administer medication.

Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse in New York State.
  • Minimum of one (1) or more years' experience. ER experience recommended, at least 1 year of Med Surg or high required.
  • Highly motivated, independent thinker and self-starter.
  • Enthusiastic team player.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to manage multiple projects. Strong follow-up and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills. (Word processing, office scheduling, familiar with Windows).
  • No cell phones or electronic devices allowed in the facility.
  • Requesting full time but may consider part time.
  • BLS certified and have a current NYS license.
  • Hours/shifts available - Days off will vary based on facility needs - primary need is 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am.
  • Positions available ASAP

Shift: 8-hour shifts, Days x1, Evenings x3, Nights x4, with every other weekend, and some holidays.
Contract Length: Up to 2 years.
