With plants in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, and Arizona, IAS supplies a diverse product line of asphalts, polymer-modified asphalt, and asphalt emulsions to the road maintenance and construction industry. Johnny B Transport is a subsidiary of Idaho Asphalt Supply, Inc. and is the trucking division. Johnny B transport hauls asphalt for Idaho Asphalt Supply and their other affiliated companies. Idaho Asphalt Supply is seeking an experienced Mechanic 3 (Chassis Mechanic) to join our team within the Transportation division.

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Shop Foreman, the Mechanic 3 is a skilled individual who is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs on trailers for transport and spreading services. The position is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, and diagnosing issues. Duties also include documenting repairs and conducting minor welding and fabrication. The Mechanic 3 must be detail oriented, with a strong understanding of mechanic best practices. This position must thrive in an environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community oriented. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. The Mechanic 3 must have the ability to work independently on projects as well as in a team environment, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and projects. We are currently recruiting two positions. One will be based in the Idaho Falls, Idaho shop and the second will be in our Woods Cross, Utah shop.

Job Responsibilities:

·        Perform safety inspections.

·        Perform routine and preventive maintenance including, but not limited to:

o   Lube, oil, and filter changes.

o   Oil seals.

o   Brakes

o   Tries

o   Suspension and chassis

o   Roper pump

·        Identify mechanical problems visually and/or with computer diagnostic equipment.

·        Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.

·        Perform tests on specific parts and systems to determine whether they are operating properly.

·        Perform transmission and clutch repair.

·        Inspect, maintain, and repair pneumatic and mechanical systems.

·        Proper handling of hazardous waste.

·        Perform welding, as needed.

·        Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

·        Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair.

·        Proficient with related computer diagnostic equipment and software, such as:

o   Cumins Insight

o   Detroit Diesel

o   Haidex

·        Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

·        Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.

·        Ability to read service and repair manuals.

·        Ability to read work orders.

·        Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.

·        Good organization, planning, leadership, and communication skills.

·        Will be working closely with drivers, vendors, and dispatch to keep track of trailer services, inspections, routine maintenance, and inventory.

·        Good housekeeping skills.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Two (2) years of related experience, education, or certification.

ASE, Brake, and Inspection certifications.

Air Conditioning certification.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.

Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.

Much have enough vision to inspect repair work.
