LOCATION: DeLand, Florida

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the Company's needs for indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality, and delivery competitive levels consistent with Company policy and performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning, scheduling of receipt and inventory control of the products and services as assigned consistent with manufacturing and/or inventory requirements or as appropriately concluded with a requisitioner.

FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtain freight quotes for both parcel and LTL shipments that Alcom is the responsible party for payment for all purchase orders, regardless of who the buyer is. Utilize our FedEx and FedEx Freight accounts to the fullest extent practical but also may have to tap other resources due to FedEx Freight’s limitations as they pertain to non-standard sized pallets.
  • Establish go-to LTL carriers for suppliers such as The Source Co., Bailey’s Hydraulics, K & W Mfg., etc.
  • Coordinate LTL pick-ups at supplier locations when shipments are ready using the carriers identified from the previous bullet.
  • Monitor and buy janitorial supplies as needed, while consolidating the necessary supplies to a single source to the fullest extent practical.
  • Provide all buying support for the consumable supplies and PPE products coming from the vending machines that are currently supported by Fastenal.
  • Initiate and lead a Request for Quote effort to determine if any supplier changes need to be made within our vending system.
  • Players are Fastenal, Grainger and MSC Industrial
  • MSC Industrial administers the Milwaukee tool program, so they’ll need to fit into the overall scheme one way or another.
  • Hardware buying – nuts, bolts, PPE, shop supplies
  • Serve as a back-up to the Inventory team, which will require forklift training.

Responsibilities/Measurements:

  • Procurement-caused shortages, damage, root cause/corrective action
  • Purchase Price, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
  • Optimum Inventory Levels (OIL)
  • Vendor and Internal Customer relationships
  • Continuous Improvement processes/plans
  • Regular cycle counts and monthly/quarterly inventory
  • Project Implementation
  • A/P match exceptions reconciliation ratios

Knowledge, Mental Effort, Communication Requirements:

  • Ability to proficiently and accurately work with Inventory systems, tools and practices (ERP), MS-Office tools, Genius ERP
  • Ability to identify and drive relationship (vendor/internal customer) requirements that deliver optimum inventory levels (OIL)
  • Experience with warehouse and materials flow in fast-paced, highly customize OEM factory
  • Experience in management of in-bound freight department preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Ability to follow directions & a strong willingness to learn

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

This job operates in an office environment (50%) and within production/warehouse (50%). This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines. As Associate Buyer/Planner, may occasionally have the following physical requirements:
