Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) is a non-profit community-based health and human services organization that serves low-income, disadvantaged and those unable to meet their needs through other sources. The agency was established in 1965 and provides services to over 9,000 individuals, children and families in three main areas:

Staff Dentist

Full time senior leader position: Monday - Friday, Exempt


Job Title: Staff Dentist

Reports to: Dental Director

Areas of Responsibility: Provide oral health care and related oral health promotion services to meet the needs of the patient population served by Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) Health Center in accordance with CAPWN Health Center Dental Clinic policies and procedures.

Major Duties:

  1. Provide direct oral health care as appropriate at CAPWN Health Center Dental Clinic as well as in outreach locations including nursing homes, hospitals, schools and local communities. Oral health care exams, diagnosis, treatment plans will be done in order to provide, as appropriate, oral surgery, root canal therapy, restorative care, fixed and removable prosthodontics and pediatric dentistry.
  2. Establish and follow goals, objectives and standards for the dental clinic.
  3. Ensure all documentation in electronic dental record accurately reflects assessment done and prescribed treatment and referrals; records will record and justify oral health care and plan of care in accordance with agency policies.
  4. Participate in CAPWN Health Center Dental Clinic staff activities to develop, execute and periodically review the clinical management policies, procedures and protocols to ensure effective and efficient delivery of care.
  5. In coordination with CAPWN Health Center’s Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement initiative, assist in quality assurance efforts and participate in performance management improvement activities as assigned.
  6. Participate in peer reviews and constructively work toward improving patient outcomes using evidenced based guidelines.
  7. Assist the dental director and other staff in revision and implementation of practice principles, clinical protocols and the oral healthcare plan.
  8. Comply with all billing procedures and policies and participate in the actions required to obtain reimbursement for all services rendered.
  9. Complete all documentation and associated supporting evidence for addition to the dental health record.
  10. As needed, supervise and educate dental students working at CAPWN Health Center’s dental clinic.
  11. Serve as a role model for effective teamwork among staff and actively work to maintain positive morale and attitude.
  12. Serve as a resource person for CAPWN Health Center staff regarding oral health patient care issues.
  13. Maintain cooperative relationships with community and area dentists and specialists to ensure continuity of care for those patients referred for care.
  14. Ensure the safety of patients and staff in all action of the dental clinic.
  15. Maintain current Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation certification (CPR).

  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Well-lit, temperature-controlled clinical setting, with standard dental and office equipment available.
  • Work requires meeting tight deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, walk and pull drawers.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate office and medical equipment.
  • Must regularly talk, hear and have close vision ability to record and communicate appropriate documents and records.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. DDS from an approved Dental school;
  2. Valid dental license or locums license to practice in the state of Nebraska;
  3. Current DEA license;
  4. A thorough knowledge of oral health promotion and disease prevention strategies;
  5. Ability to work as a team member to establish effective relationships with colleagues, patients and staff is essential;
  6. Experience in working with underserved populations.
