JOB PURPOSE

As a member of the project team for a 900,000-square-foot harvest processing facility, this position creates and engineers technical drawings and schematics utilizing hand drawing skills as well as computer-aided drafting software to produce easy-to-follow blueprints and instructions for projects. Collaborates with site engineers, machine operators, and site architects to recommend vital safety and efficiency improvements to designs and projects. This position also maintains an up-to-date library of current drawings for the facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Creates accurate CAD drawings from hand sketches, verbal instructions, and site visits that incorporate exact measurements, calculations, building codes, and other construction details.
  • Utilizes critical and creative thinking skills to create functional sketches and drawings, updating project drawings which support the project team in the design process.
  • Prepares wiring diagrams which skilled employees use to install, and repair electrical equipment, wiring and distribution systems.
  • Reviews and verifies sketches and drawings for errors and seeks clarity and understanding from the project team prior to submission.
  • Creates 3-D models and renderings from CAD data in a building information modeling system.
  • Maintains sketches and drawings in an organized web-based storage and collaboration site.
  • Keeps abreast of new drafting software and technological advancements in architectural design.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; or an associate’s or four (4) years of relevant experience in drafting, engineering, architecture, or relevant fields.
  • Experience in computer-aided design and drafting (CAD) and working knowledge of electrical circuitry and design.
  • Ability to draw manually preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate in a team setting while working in a fast-paced environment and maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Mathematical aptitude, analytical, problem-solving, and reasoning skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift to 100 pounds and sometimes push/and or move up to 300 pounds. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office and in a processing plant setting. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to airborne particles, chemicals, and gases at low concentrations. The noise level in the work environment can be loud when in the production area and requires hearing protection.
