Ant h ro pology, in the College of Arts and Sciences, is the study of what it means to be human in the broadest sense, through an examination of culture and society (sociocultural and linguistic ant h ro pology), the biology and evolution of humans and our closest relatives (biological ant h ro pology) and the study of past human communities and material culture (archaeology) . The underwater archaeological technicians will conduct archaeological excavations at a submerged prehistoric archaeological site in northwest Florida for the Center for the Study of the First Americans at Texas A&M University. Duties of this position will include conducting underwater surveys and archaeological excavation on scuba. What You Need to Know
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Required Education and Experience:
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Candidates MUST have American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) Certification
Candidates must also possess advanced Scuba certifications from PADI or another accredited diving agency
Candidates must also be CPR and first-aid certified
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates must have prior experience excavating submerged prehistoric archaeological sites in northwest Florida
Candidates must be able to scuba dive for an extended period of time (up to 4 hours or more per day)
Preferred Education and Experience:
Possession of or working towards a master’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field is preferred
Responsibilities:
Archaeological Field Work : Conducting underwater archaeological excavation on scuba. Maintaining and monitoring surface-supplied air system. Maintaining and monitoring dredges. Maintaining and monitoring water-screening systems. Conducting underwater archaeological surveys on scuba.
Data Entry : Record field notes.
