Job Duties

NOVA VDOT Power and Lighting Section is seeking an Electronics Technician Senior to perform troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairing including preventive maintenance of a variety of electronic, and electrical systems / components in the traffic management systems (TMS) for assigned areas. You will perform emergency repairs to provide total maintenance of the facility's structural, operational, and equipment replacement needs 7 days per week, 24 hours per day, ensuring the safety of both internal and external customers. You will ensure compliance with all established safety standards, VDOT policies and procedures, and electronic and ITS equipment operational standards, in addition to using available resources to resolve assigned work details and ensure equipment is returned to proper operational status within pre-determined time frame.

Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:

Responsive Troubleshooting and Repair-Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of electrical and lighting systems. Resolving power related issues including ITS power issues and outages. Working with High Voltage electrical systems. Setting light poles, replacing light fixtures, replacing other electrical components. Assisting in locating underground utilities and relocation of such utilities.

Inspections- Conducts preliminary and final inspections of Roadway Lighting and Power. Producing a punch list and following up with completion of punch list items. Conducting Meter Base inspections prior to installations of Meters by utility companies. Inspecting power and lighting related accidents. Producing a list of items for reinstallation / replacement.

Order Management and Inventory control- Using HMMS (Highway Maintenance Management System) to create work orders, to transfer work orders, and to revise / close work orders. Coordinating and purchasing of materials needed for repair of lighting and power assets.

Contractors- Monitor and inspect contractor work. Perform visual and electronic testing and final system evaluation after maintenance, upgrades and, or repairs are completed by contractors. Conduct field meetings with contractors and consultants and resolving roadway lighting and power related issues.

Maintain Records- Maintain documentation for equipment testing, troubleshooting and repair. Provide checklists or reports as required. Provide reports to supervisor detailing accomplishments and required activities. Prepare weekly and or daily reports for submittal.

Routine Work, First and Emergency Response- Perform routine operations or equipment verifications. Perform first response work related to testing and diagnostics and providing same day repair (when parts are available). Respond to emergency call-outs during scheduled call-out assignment. Conducting preventive maintenance of lighting assets.

Documentation- Prepare routine and technical reports, logs and documentation. Instruct and train staff on the proper use and operation of technical equipment and safety. Report deficiencies noted to supervisor. Respond during off-duty hours for emergencies, equipment failures, backup support, inclement weather, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

•Valid driver's license.
• Experience applying federal and state regulations and standards related to traffic control devices.
• Ability to use a variety of hand tools and test equipment to perform maintenance on power and Lighting.
• Ability to oversee the work of others, as well as plan, coordinate and prioritize multiple assignments and competing priorities.
• Thorough knowledge of traffic management systems, graphic design and computer use.
• Ability to keep detailed and accurate records.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Additional Considerations

• Ability to enter and maintain work orders in automated systems.
• IMSA Roadway Lighting Level l
• Skill in entering work orders in HMMS.
• A combination of training, experience or education in Electronics Technology or related field desired.
